Unfortunately, at least one out of ten American elders above sixty years has been exposed to torture and the adult abused with discrimination (Dong, 2015). In defense of the elderly individuals, numerous agencies have teamed up to defend the older generation. The agencies root for enactment of the Americans Act that concerns the adults.Agencies Involved

One of the federal agencies that is very vocal in agitating for the rights of the elders in America is the Administration on Aging (AoA) that implements the Older American's Act (Dong, 2015). The state agency that is active in ensuring the rights of the older people are respected is the National Association of States United for Aging and Disabilities (NASUAD). The county agency that is fighting against elders neglect is the Justice Initiative (ACL, 2019). The federal government has also accredited non-governmental agencies to help facilitate operationalizing and installation of the Older American's Act. The most-known NGO is the Association of University Centers on Disability (AUCD) (Dong, 2015).

SUBJECT: Elders' Rights

Elder Americans are facing a lot of challenges. In their quest to have a decent life, the older generation is subjected to a variety of abuses. Apart from injuries, older Americans are also neglected by their relatives. The tribulation the older Americans face hampers their effort to seek mental and physical health. The abuses the older people face affects them psychologically hence increasing their chances of dying (Czaja, Boot, Charness, & Rogers, 2019).

In an attempt to curb the abuses, the government, in collaboration with other agencies, has come up to fight the elder abuse. The federal government has installed the Older American Act. Administration on Aging liaises with non-governmental agencies to ensure the older people are protected from frequent injuries (Czaja et al., 2019).

The established laws are fundamental towards protecting older people. Even though the rules are functioning, the federal government needs to tighten its regulations regarding the protection of older people. The government can implement laws that compel relatives of older people to take care of their older relatives. Neglect of elders by family members should be criminalized. Individuals found guilty of abusing the elders both physically or mentally need to face a lengthy jail term. Enforcing a protracted jail term against those who mistreat elders will help protect the elders. Mote non-governmental agencies should be established to take care of the neglected elders in society (Czaja et al., 2019). The non-governmental agencies need sponsorship to help them make excellent care of the elderly people within the community. The needs of the elders may be huge hence demanding for the agencies to handle without the help of sponsorship.

Thank you for your cooperation.
