During the lessons on personality traits and teams, I realised that I belong to the dominant "D" type in the DiSC personality traits. The "D" type refers to the outgoing and task-oriented personality. I love networking with my peers and making new friends. I am focused on my goals and always ensure I accomplish what I set out to achieve. I understand and respect other people's decisions and am not quick to judge. As a dominant type, I am open to ideas from other people, but I am keen on analysing the ideas to make a sound judgement before committing to them. I am a team player, and the study of personality type and teamwork has made me understand myself better regarding team effort.

I have discovered that I am ideally suited to teams and teamwork. Being a dominant type, I am easy to mingle with my teammates, work hand in hand with them to achieve our team goals and objectives (Sugerman, 2009). I appreciate the team effort as it facilitates achievements of more vital goals than when an individual works alone. Teams are essential learning centres where I can learn from others and develop my skills.

My preferences could impact a team in the following ways. One, I have excellent leadership skills which could a long way in offering direction to the team. I can analyse and critically think about a phenomenon, hence enabling the team to view a phenomenon from different angles (Belbin, 2010). I am a listening person and lend my ears to my teammates. This will allow healthy discussions to take place as we explore options. Lastly, I am a problem solver and would greatly help a team find solutions to its problems, thereby, contributing towards the success of the team.

When participating in a team, I will watch out for trust, exploiting each team members strengths and ensuring there is effective communication. As a team, trust should be gained through loyalty and honesty to team members. Since everyone has unique strengths, I would ensure that everyone's strengths are fully exploited to achieve the best results (Ezziane et al., 2012). Lastly, effective communication is the cornerstone for every team. Communication should flow across the team freely.

I can best collaborate on a team by setting goals to be achieved either by each or by the whole team. This would ensure that everyone contributes, hence facilitating collaboration (Thompson, 2011). I would bring leadership skills, critical thinking and decision-making skills to a team. I can offer leadership skills by pointing the team in the right direction. I think critically before acting, a virtue that leads me to success. Lastly, I would help the team to make correct decisions that take them a step closer to success.

The most significant thing I have learned about myself that relates to teams is that I have what it takes to lead. I have been a member of several groups in school and have been appointed as the group leader several times due to my ability to offer leadership solutions. This has dramatically improved my self-esteem and my confidence.

The two things I might do differently about teams or leading teams in by first learning the personality traits of the team members and their strengths and weaknesses (Dale, Bamford, Bamford & van der Wiele, 2016). Understanding the personality traits will enable me to figure out their positions in the team. Understanding their strengths and weaknesses will allow me to know what to expect from them as well as how to best improve them. I can, for instance, pair them to complement their attributes to ensure the success of the team.
