I have grown up professionally and personally through my relationship with nursing. Nursing has given me the freedom to venture into uncharted territory while expanding my nursing boundaries. As a result of achieving education on the unique aspects as a Nursing Practitioner, I will contribute to the Decker School of Nursing graduate community while integrating my professional knowledge in the program. The reason why I decided to pursue my graduate study at Binghamton University is that it offers the postmaster program, I am interested in. It also provides the online study for the program hence convenient for my postmaster program.
For my education, I started in SUNY Farmingdale as an associate in Applied Science in Nursing. I then progressed to Hartwick College for my bachelor of science in Nursing. I also graduated with a Masters science in Nursing Education in State University of New York at Delhi. Having been a nurse since 1996, I have progressively pursed my education while raising a family of four children. In the past nine years, I have obtained both my BSN and my MSN all while working and raising my family. My educational goals are important both for me, and my children are made to know that it is not late to pursue education. While pursuing nursing, I have incorporated in my professional the experiences learned from the outside environment. As a result, I have enjoyed my nursing profession since it offers a learning as well as a teachable moment and the feeling to contribute to the well being of others while giving back to the society.
With improved nursing profession I began with ASN at SUNY Farmingdale then for BSN from Hartwick College. I also have my MSN in Nursing Education from SUNY Delhi. After my education, I have worked in various settings as a nurse and also with inpatient surgery. I have also worked in the operating room as an assistant nurse manager. Recently, I have worked as a care manager for the psychiatric department and as an admissions nurse for home care. Also, I have worked at one institution, Bassett Medical Center and I have also had employment with other various companies. As a result, I look forward to a new challenge and education from this experience.
My plan in pursuing my Nursing Practitioner program in mental health is to contribute to the health of my community in a holistic approach. Since I live in rural upstate New York, I see the need for consistent mental health care for the patients hence plans to continue practicing in this area that is needed by the community.
Conclusion
I have volunteered for the Remote Area Medical team in May 2018, which gave me experience on medical and psychological needs of the country. As a result of the event held in rural Virginia, I gained training in the administration of NARCAN which addressed the need for providing education on substance abuse disorders. I have taken the practice into my community and utilizing it as a PMHNP.
