Introduction

Rehabilitation is a therapeutic process of providing individuals with necessary support after identifying the problems they are encountering. It is the population that reignites a passion within me. Addiction and rehabilitation for individuals have always needed for social workers that have the strengths that are strongly suited for advocacy and empowerment. When working with co-occurring substance abuse addicts, I would engage using the spiritual and religious aspects during sessions or with the time spent with the client if possible if my place of employment allowed it. Being that the client is at the breaking point (which is at no hope at all) a condition characterized by losing faith and worthlessness, it would be beneficial to give the client something worth fighting. Religious and spiritual matters might help the client to understand better why certain things exist the way they are. It could then ease and elevate the difficulty that the client is going. Additionally, the issues might give the client some different perspective on the condition that he/she is. It also opens up other areas for empowerment for the client for their journey through Christ in his self-image, as well as religious and spiritual organizations are considered a positive resource and the support network for the client or the individual.

Substance abuse and addiction are viewed to be among the major problems facing today's society (Langwith, 2013). The issue mostly affects young individuals whereby it becomes difficult for those who are addicted to drugs to adjust to the day to day activities. Substance abuse is also a public health issue and hence the dire need for it to address it. The behavior does affect not only the victims but also the whole society from a global perspective (Langwith, 2013).

Client empowerment was the primary focus due to the rights of the client, which have been taken away, but then the client earning the right to get them back, like doing their time in jail is not enough. Empowered those in my community by increasing their knowledge and educating them on the issues will expand their awareness. I can give felons hope for change with my proposal. My advocacy work shows change is needed and individuals need to get involved. Hopefully, this project helped increase their desire for change. Since, realizing when addicts could not control all aspects of their life and found a place of being completely powerless, which made suffering a process. Suffering through a process in which a social worker that is a Christian would be able to witness to the client and help the client rely on their beliefs and faith traits that would help them to surrender to the Lord or becoming a believer.

Application of Research Question to Practice

Individuals rehabilitated in the prisons/jails always go back to the community. Rehabilitation and incarceration provide for these individuals an opportunity to connect a stiff to get to and under-served population to cure in a stable environment. This research question will, therefore, advocate for the implementation of drug and substance abuse treatment to incarcerated individuals. The principal objective is to eliminate social stigma that the society might have in connection to these individuals. As a result, they might find it very hard to safely integrate back into the community, once their rehabilitation is complete.

The reason behind the elimination of such stigma is that during rehabilitation, victims of drug and substance abuse get the chance to learn skills while they are in prison. Some of these skills include life skills, coping skills, employment among others. It increases the opportunity so that they can desist from using the drugs and overcome the addiction problem.

Variables and Operation Definitions

Variables are factors of research that are bound to change. The researcher manipulates independent variables while the dependent variable is an outcome variable where the result of managing independent variable (Andrews, & Bonta, 2014). About this research, the measurement of stigma will be through research to determine whether such stigma exists.

The hypothesis is that stigmas against rehabilitated individuals exist within the society. Most of these individuals find it hard to integrate back into the community because of the perceptions that people have towards them. The reason behind this is majorly brought about by lack of education. Does stigma exist among the rehabilitated population of individuals who re-enter back to the community? The stigma, in this case, becomes the dependent variable while the rehabilitated population is the independent variable. The research will, therefore, take a sample of the rehabilitated population and investigate the extent of the stigma that they might go through. This will be the operational definition.

The ideas and methods that will keep me on track while conducting this research study will be the use of interviews focus groups and ethnography (observation) (De Vaus, & De Vaus, 2013). The interviews will do in person to enable me to capture the possible challenges faced by rehabilitated individuals. The focus groups will involve individuals who are facing the possibility of stigma. In such groups, the groupings of victims of stigmatization and a moderator will guide the discussions. During the talks, the collection of the required data will through writing notes. Observation also helps in identification of the unspoken feedback. This study will observe stigma which might be evident in the community. The research will be able to identify this through trough body languages, facial expression, and behaviors that indicate positive or negative feelings concerning the issue of stigma among rehabilitated individuals.

Conclusion

The primary population that I aim to do research in this study is the dually diagnosed clients with mental illness or people experiencing the problem of addiction with felons that re-enter the society from incineration.
