Introduction
The reconstruction occurred between 1865 and 1877 and involved peace restoration and the emergence of America as a new society of peace through rebuilding the nation after an extended period of pain by African Americans from whites superiority. Blacks were freed from color, origin and education discrimination and freed from slavery. Rebuilding involved a lot among which included giving the blacks the right to own land as property, African America to vote and be voted as other white and the right to receive the similar education as whites. It advocated for the abolition of slave trade and the freed slaves having the right to hold offices and have the same privileges as the white. The period was not eased to accomplish as some whites were opposing it due to some legal status of the slave.
Successes of Reconstruction
The reconstruction succeeded in viewing the Africans and giving them the same kind of privileges enjoyed by the whites. Laws that protected the blacks and placed them on the same status came into existence. Blacks gained freedom of expression freed from slaves and the right to enjoy education just as the whites. Bureau which gives them right to own land access education and having the same legal status came into place.
Failures of Reconstruction
The period of rehabilitation leads to the emergence of Klux Klux Klan who was opposing the government due to the legal status awarded to the freed slave. Slave being allowed to own land was and voted and participating in the Congress was a threat to whites. Famine followed the period of reconstruction due to land denial to the southern whites, and the got few jobs. The situation further affected industrialization farming as that work was majorly for slave and lead to corruption due to taxes which left white with nothing
Less Than Honorable Actions and Results of Westward Expansion Under the Claim of “Manifest Destiny”
Manifest destiny was an action taken by America to expand the boundaries to the west hence westward. The expansion was achieved through the acquisition of land through negotiations and sometimes forced the purchase. At firstManifest destiny was applied with Texas in 1845.Further development followed in1846 when both the America and Britain extended the boundaries in what was called Northwest boundaries. An agreement was made between the United States and Mexico when the United States won the 1846 war the treaty allowing us to take the Rio Grande in exchange for $15 million. In 1853 when James Gadsden further purchased land from Mexico that is the place south of Gila River.
The Negative Impact of Westward Manifest Destiny
The ideas of expanding America led to the migration of the native to the west eroded the tribes and dealt away with cultural values of people further escalating wars and tension. Manifest destiny made the American proud now that they had a large size and wealthier hence greed for power. With the vast farms, it favored slavery for the slave to work on large farms.
Importance of Westward Manifest Destiny
It resulted in a lot of American natives migrating to west from east due to increased population in the east. People migrated to the west and took advantage of large tracts of land and fresh market. The presence of gold discoveries further escalated the process of migration with people from outside America also being attracted by the region. Movement increased and revolutionized the American economy
What Were Factors That Contributed to the Increased Democratization in the Early 1800S?
Americans migrated in the west part of the Appalachian in 1800. During this time, there were only two states namely; Kentucky and Tennessee The number increased later by 30 percent in 1824 for fertile land, settlement, and fresh market and by this time the amount of the state increased to eight. However, this migration and movement of people to the west widened the need democracy in the United States.
In the course of migration of Americans to the westward, the power concentrated in the eastern part particularly the northeast. During this time a few people elected and approved by the legislature elected the president and the governors. And in this case, the council who nominated the electors was chosen in consideration of the property rights such as land and money. Five states women were not allowed to vote. The presence of independent-minded westerners did not abruptly change the status of voters in the west part, and the only Americans who could vote only participated in the process after the Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, and Ohio became states. The method of restriction went ahead and at this time president was selected by certain influential congressmen who had an interest in protecting their party. The system of voting became unsuccessful after 1824 after property rights elimination giving room for more people to vote.
Jackson a more magnificent leader who won the presidential seat with the democratic republican opened the democratic process. After the year 1828 changes occurred and this widened the process . By 1831, national party convention held wholly changed a significant fraction of the American and they're democratically altered and the results experienced in the year 1876 when 81.8% of the voting population participated in the process within a quarter of the same century democracy was widened, and it is only women who could not vote.
