Introduction
Data from the search engines and cookies collected from sites individuals visit online has continually informed the choices made by organizations in mobilizing their resources to best satisfy the needs of the digital society. Markets have become more efficient and even the emails we receive nowadays are tailored as per our needs and most of the time refer to us by our surnames. The main question however is, can this data be used in solving the social problems such as rising suicide cases in our societies. Both the physical and social impact of suicides on both individuals and the nation as a whole is enormous. Crisis text line is famous for its 24 hours availability for counselling and problem solving solutions to American citizens.
"Today I am going to discuss the concept of suicide and the various ways communication through channels such as Crisis Text Line can help in reducing the number of suicide cases."
Suicides are a result of self-destruction cases emanating from not belonging, desire to reach certain levels or standards and ultimate failure to make rational choices.
The taxonomy of suicides is as a resultant of a constant escaping state that consequently leads to a self-destructive state. Individuals then strive to sustain such state by making momentous decisions as they quest for control therefore resulting in setting higher standards than one could achieve while dwelling on stress and negative attributions of self (Baumeister, p.94-96). As individuals dwell on quest for control they end up avoiding self-awareness and refraining from making rational decisions thus cognitive destruction (Baumeister, p.92). Communication helps guide and counsel against momentous decisions that may eventually prove destructive.
Besides being a constant need to exert control over the destructive state, suicides are also a result of a struggle between the inner self of individuals.
Besides having a cognitive destructive behavior, what most individuals do not know is that suicidal individuals are usually on a constant fight whether to live or die. According to Harris et al, (p.181), suicides occur when the struggle is worn by the negative side (Death). The intensity of the struggle to live can be enhanced by increasing the odds of the winning side through multiple channels that can aid in the decision making process towards intolerable pain.
Communication guides and creates awareness on ways of dealing with tough situations in life, thus, psychological and physical stressors that precede suicides are not exceptional. The vast use of mobile phones and the internet provides adequate support mechanisms to the largest number of potential suicide victims and families. Additionally, due to increased distrust on psychiatric service providers, the social media offers the best solution for suicide cases for example 70% of individuals using online forums to seek psychological support find them useful and supportive (Robinson, p.10).
Conclusion
The constant need by suicidal individuals to escape from decision making as they seek control and justification or their momentous decisions can be educed with the provision of support structures. There is no effective way to offer support to the large number of US citizens than through communication and socializing techniques they use on a daily basis.
According to the CDC trends of suicides rose from 12 people in 2012 to 16 people in 2016. Such drastic change demands for viable short and long-term solutions.
