Marriage and communication
The selection of this chapter is explicitly is because communication in marriage is affecting the broader population globally every day. Communication is the primary factor to a healthy relationship since the couples can understand what each of them is experiencing to solve the problem affecting their marriage.
A healthy marriage works based on honesty by a sincere exchange of beliefs, emotions, and desires. Therefore, the set career goals will not be interfered with as a result of a bad marriage without communication. A healthy marriage will motivate an individual to work hard in their career to effectively maintain a marriage's financial needs. A good marriage gives room for ample time to practice the career skills and getting the experience. Long-term and short-term goals can be achieved through an environment with a healthy marriage.
The issues that manifest through marriages without communication can lead to separation and divorce. Lack of communication in marriage can cause resentments, not understanding each other, and feeling a wide distance between one another. Married couples that do not learn to communicate can face issues about intimacy, fights, and the growth of the relationship. The insight of the marriage partner's inner thoughts and personality to each other can lead to a strong connection. However, a lack of communication makes the connection weak and vulnerable to break-up.
The effects of lack of communication are elevated conflicts, the feeling of loneliness, lack of intimacy to each other, difficult planning and achieving of goals, turning one another away in an attempt to connect, and a bad perspective of both partners on each other.
The major issue of a bad communication effect is the fighting of the couples by making the partner feel that there is no care for each other's feelings through wide distances between couples. As a result, partners can end up in an argument that will have a big impact on their marriage. Throwing bad words and offensive language between couples indicates that the couples have no respect towards each other, therefore, creating an environment that can lead to physical assault and injuries.
Crossing each other's lines is another issue of lack of communication between married couples. Couples assume that they know what the other is thinking thus rendering to no communication at all. The marriage will end up in misunderstandings and conflicts that can have a more impact on marriage. The ignorance that the partners do not need to communicate verbally to each other and assuming that they know each other's thoughts can lead to a serious problem of divorce.
Running away is an issue brought about by the breakdown of the communication to the extent of an argument leading making the couples to walk away. Poor communication can create the issue of the feeling of lack of closeness which can lead to stopping caring to keep each other around. If one of the couples cease caring, stops having the feeling of being wanted in the marriage thereby misunderstandings can continue building up to take over the marriage.
Lack of communication can lead to the issue of seeming selfish as the partners will tend to focus more individually, which becomes a challenge to take the perspective of the other person. Taking more focus on individual inner voice might not make them empathize with each other, which can make them seem selfish and try to push each other away.
Resentments and conflicts that are unresolved can be led by a lack of communication among married people. Arguments are normal to any couple but become a potential threat to a marriage when they are left without a solution. Negativity is gradually created between couples.
Society can support this group of people through the following:
- Advising couples to be honest with each other.
- Showing the couples the need to think, talk, and listening to one another.
- Emphasizing on couples to talk face-to-face.
The pandemic has affected many marriages in communication. Some couples, for example, health workers, are heavily involved in health facilities to treat a huge number of patients. The health workers are having less or no time to communicate with their spouses which can lead to misunderstandings in the marriages. The current global pandemic has led the subject to many marriages to get depressed due to the lockdowns and disruption in the economy. The economy has greatly affected leaving many marriages without an income therefore without proper communication between the couples can lead to serious outcomes that can lead to separation and divorce.
