Introduction
In the current society, nurses are aware of the diverse challenges facing the healthcare sector. However, basing on the prevailing conditions, the introduction of a healthcare bill, and passing it through the diverse stages to make it a law is one of the sound ways of curbing the current challenges in the health sector (Abood, 2018). By virtue of the expertise possessed by nurses, the nurses have a vital role in diverse stages of the bill before its adopted as a law. In order for the nurses to take part in the law-making process, they must have the desired determination and political knowledge to execute various activities (Burke, 2016).
As provided by Sheila Burke, the nurses contribute to the bill passage process through the collaborative policy. For example, during the inception of the bill relating to healthcare, the American Association of College nurses have always taken part in the process through the provision of insightful information relating to healthcare (Burke, 2016). The nurses are directly practicing in the field and are aware of the imminent challenges in the field; hence during the process, they take part by availing information to be captured in the bill. Furthermore, through the provision of the information, the nurses will play a role of convincing the involved parties on the importance of the bill as they possess factual information to be used in convincing involved parties.
Two Ways Influence Can Take Place
During the bill passage, the nurses influence the process through the provision of factual data on the issues affecting the healthcare system in the society and taking part in drafting the report to coerce the lawmakers to accept the bill (Abood, 2018). However, considering the two ways in which the nurses influence the process, the provision of factual data plays a significant role and contributes immensely to the success of the bill. In this case, the nurse will provide information that brings the real image of the issues facing healthcare. The provided information plays a crucial role in ensuring that the drafted bill is based on the real issues hence bolstering its adoption during the law-making process.
In society, registered nurses possess legitimate power (Abood, 2018). The legitimate power bolsters the trust which the policymakers have on nurses; therefore, the information provided by the nurses will be trusted and worth to be utilized in drafting the bill and convincing the policymakers to adopt the bill and make it a law.
Roles Played by Nurses to Promote Health Status
Social determinants are the conditions that an individual is born in and grows and has the capability to influence the health of a person ("World Health Organization," 2019). For example, the physical environment can subject one to health effects if the area is crowded hence adversely affecting the hygiene, thus resulting in health complications of the people living in the environment. In this case, the nurses play a vital role by providing information on the ways in which the crowding affects human health. By virtue of their profession and experience, nurses can avail historical information on how the crowding has affected human health.
Upon providing information on the effects of crowding, the nurses provide a possible remedy to the challenge. In this case, during the law-making process, the nurse indicates sound environmental conditions which ought to be maintained to uphold the health conditions of the society. However, in areas where the social determinant of health has affected society, the nurse provides a possible solution such as appropriate hygiene medication to salvage the condition.
