Introduction
Boomerang and failure - to launch is one of the biggest problems facing young adults and their parents. There are many reasons causing members of this group of the population to return to parental homes. Parental homes for these people are places of safety and support in financial or social problems such as divorce. Boomerang and failure- to- launch is a challenge that affects a sense of independence among young adults (South & Lei, 2015). This problem has attracted many researchers' attention. Most of the studies identify it as critical social, emotional, and economic issues that need to be addressed to reduce both parents and the children involved. This paper discusses research suggestions concerning the impact of Boomerangs and failure-to-launch
Reasons Research Is Suggesting For Young Adults Still Living At Home
Researchers have presented many suggestions for young adult returnees to address the issues and find solutions. They suggest that these youths redefine their roles and expectations to achieve proper launch and continue supporting themselves (Burn & Szoeke, 2016). This suggestion is important to consider because it helps youths gain the confidence to move forward, give room for mistakes, and provide solutions for the causes rather than the symptoms. Youths must understand their stage of life and the changes that have happened and set their expectations to reflect their abilities and capacity to achieve a given objective. Secondly, they suggest that youths should build reliable support (Burn & Szoeke, 2016). No one is an island, and every family has problems to solve and responsibilities to address. The youths need to have a support system that can provide guidance and support whenever needed. A proper support system would set a good example to strive, achieve a successful launch, and prevent coresidence. Through a supportive environment, young adults can learn how to be independent.
The Impact of Residence on Parents
The changing economic status translates to a change in social behaviors and family responsibility; most young adults cannot raise their families or support themselves due to unemployment and emotional demands. One of the impacts of this problem is parental financial constraints because of continued support for their children (Burn & Szoeke, 2016). When children return, parents are forced to readjust their expenditures to meet their needs and returnees. In many cases, they are overstrained, especially when their returnees are unemployed. Another impact is emotional problems. Due to economic and social demands, parents and returnees experience many stress and other emotional influences leading to general instability despite coming back home. Most returnees are encouraged to leave their homes and explore other potentials, which might be difficult. Conclusively this challenge is a critical issue affecting both the returnees and their parents, there is a need to address and provide possible solutions.
