The biggest problem that is currently facing humanity is the destruction of the environment. Mankind has been devouring resources since the 70s faster than they grow up. And there are no signs of improvement. In 2017, the footprint of humanity was 11,000 million global hectares or 1.7 per person. However, the bio-capacity of the Earth was only 20.1 billion hectares or 2.8 per person. Nature warns us every year that something is changing. The increase in temperature causes deforestation, destruction of natural habitats, the melting of the poles, extreme temperatures and meteorological phenomena such as typhoons or hurricanes. Humans are halfway to damaging the environment so badly that Earth will no longer be a safe space for our species, reports an article in the journal Science. The study suggests that if humankind continues to damage the environment, the Earth could cease to be a safe space for our species.
The risks that are inherent in the gathering and interpretation of observed evidence makes it important to design a methodology that will allow access to a wide range of sources, this ensures verification of date before being accepted and used as evidence. This kind of methodology will incorporate different types of data. The sources of relevant data will be from books on environmental degradation, journal, the internet, thesis, printed materials, and thesis among others. The main objectives will be to discuss the global environmental major issues and the problems that have risen due to the destruction of the environment not only in the United States but in the whole world. The research will also employ a phenomenological, empirical, and historical approach.
During the last years, there has been a progressive destruction of forests or deforestation. In many countries, deforestation is the result of unsustainable agriculture or the exploitation of wood. 70% of the earth's surface is covered with water, but 97.5% of seawater is not suitable for human consumption. On the other hand, the demand for water grows and is expected to increase by 55% until the year 2050. The air pollution that people breathe due to the emission of gases is one of the most worrisome problems of the environment. Currently, China is the most polluting country in terms of CO2 emissions since it emits 10.64 kilotons, followed by the United States. with 5.17. The environmental damages by wars have been accompanied by toxic waters, unexploded bombs, poisoned and destroyed farmland and hundreds of other sequels.
Conclusion
Destruction of the environment has resulted in water pollution, air pollution, nuclear wastes, and radiation issues, depletion of natural resources, global warming, land degradation, climate change, overpopulation, the depletion of the ozone layer, the extinction of wildlife, toxic chemicals being released in water bodies, soil pollution, loss of natural habitat, and loss of bio-diversity among so many other effects. Living in harmony with nature and leaving our children a healthy planet must be the objectives of our day to day life. It is not enough to be scared when seeing an oil spill on television, it is important to act and be aware. These implications send a bigger message all humanity, and that is why I have chosen it to be the focus of my project. Additionally, this study will help humankind adopt a pragmatic approach in managing the degraded environment since the destruction of the environment is a threat to human survival.
