Introduction
In 2008, there was a global financial crisis where a good number of people suffered economically and socially as a result. There was a finical epidemic leading to a good number of people, over one million, losing their jobs and homes as well in the recession after the Great Depression which almost led to an international financial collapse (Chang, Shu-Sen, et al., pg 320). The Inside Job is a documentary film that tries to unearth the entire occurrences resulting in this global financial crisis. Throughout the film, research is done by interviewing great economist, journalists, politicians, financiers, and academics to identify what happened leading to the crisis. Inside job, therefore, is an economic documentary that tends to unearth the reasons for an almost finical collapse in 2008. This paper thus looks into some of the economic aspects covered in this documentary film and providing a summary on the same.
In the film, the major economic issues brought forward is how various banks, lenders and home buyers almost caused an economic crisis as there was big lending and borrowing of money to people who could not even afford the houses and could not pay back the cash on time(Kotz, David, pg 310). This lending and borrowing lead to great losses and huge finical companies which determine the stock exchange and the financial status were collapsing. Among the companies were Lehman Brothers and AIG in America. Various CEOs who were responsible for these issues were not accountable for anything and just resigned and walk away. An economic theme of accountability thus was portrayed as most of those who caused this were not responsible and accountable. The plight of bankers and taxpayers in a country was revealed as they are the greate determinant of the economy. Taxpayers are the leading economy determinant; thus without them, the stocks shambles.
Since it was a documentary film where various people who were interviewed gave their own independent opinion about the crisis, it cannot be said to be one-sided. The themes were well presented and in a detailed manner thus from a personal opinion; it was a good film that successfully conveyed its themes to the audience. In terms of portraying the topics, the film producer used various people of the society who directly or indirectly took part to give information.
By interviewing the journalists, politicians, researchers who wrote about the crisis, financiers, and academics, he was able to provide robust information about the topics and main themes of the information that he wanted to provide to the target audience. The film indeed leaves the viewer with many more questions like what influenced the start of this kind of stark exchange and business involvement and how was the situation controlled and somehow kept the low key with very few citizens realizing how serious it was until a few years later after several studies have been done on the same. The documentary film raises more questions as someone becomes more curious about other issues including where the CEOs who were responsible for this crisis if any action was taken against them according to the law. A said before; the video is not biased as it is a documentary and every person gives his or her own experience or opinion as per what the researcher is looking for.
