Benefits of Adaptive Reuse in Preserving History
Adaptive reuse helps in preserving what is best for the community when it is located. Developing such projects in modern and usable ways helps in making preservation of the exteriors of the building. Such developments serves as a new way of infusing life into the historic building. Such preservation helps in developing new beacons within the community where the building is located. Adaptive reuse gains momentum in areas where there is higher population growth. Adaptive reuse is beneficial in creating awareness in areas where historic preservation is the key driving force.
Adaptive reuse contributes to the preservation of history through offering protection against any unregulated demolition of the buildings. While preservation guidelines of different buildings may not be influenced by the preservation guidelines, the majority of the historical sites must be preserved as part of preserving the community's history. Adaptive reuse helps preserve historic buildings, which are part of the collective cultural patrimony of the community where they are located. Just like the way people consider art as a means of preserving history, the historic buildings also have vast artistic skills that are not in existence anymore.
Adaptive reuse provides the community with a sense of connection between the past and the present. Old buildings provide people with an opportunity of experiencing were those that came before we lived and touched. Through the adaptive use, preservation of history provides the community with a better connection with the past, which greatly contributes to providing the people with a stronger sense of identity. People are provided with their cultural history through the process of repurposing old buildings. The more adaptive reuse is considered, the more the community will be connected to their historical backgrounds.
Conclusion
Looking at the adaptive reuse in different projects makes it clear to understand how it helps achieve more practical goals. As part of viewing examples that present success on the adaptive reuse projects, it is important to consider the Tongji architecture design group's Shanghai office, Chinati Foundation in Marfa City, and the Zietz MOCAA in Cape Town. Such infrastructures have managed to take the past structural pieces and make them relevant in the present and the future.
