Introduction
The 20th century Modernism is considered to have a wave of different philosophical movements and the art movements that are addressing the cultural trend as well as the changes that comes with the influence of western societies. It is thus, vital to note that coming up with publications maybe be addressing the issues that are related to the cultural changes and their impacts on people. Mostly books written in this century are addressing these social and cultural issues that come along during this time. Selecting the art to be used as a cover of the book, there are a lot of factors that are supposed to be looked into. One of the significant factors that need to be considered is the subject of the book and the various themes that are addressed in the book.
In that connection, I would address the book on the changing role of women in modern society. The book majorly addresses the transformations that women undergo from past positions and the new roles that are surfacing in the 20th century. There are several artworks and music, among other forms of art that have been realized and can be used as a way to depict the changing role of women in modern society. For this task, I will consider the art done by Frida Kahlo, which addresses some of the functions that women are taking up in contemporary society. Frida represents a self-portrait that is used to show that women are starting raising ups and starting again. This can be depicted from the thorn necklaces that represent the sufferings and the problems that women had undergone, and that interfered with their development in society. The hummingbird shows a sign of new dawn for the women.
The work is used to portray a comprehensive view of the problems and the sufferings that women had undergone in the past, and now it is the time to take off the old oppressive roles and wear new roles. The paint is representing the general women in society and their roles. The features of these works that can make it to be useful in the cover of the book are the determination face that Frida portrays in this work. It is a real show that there is a need for women to wake up and take on their responsibilities.
Another feature that can be used to categorize the work is the use of modern materials, which are majorly used to portray that women are in a new era, and thus there is a need for them to wake up. In the book, the theme of taking a new course of action by the women to help in the elimination of the oppression in modern society can be related to this works. This work, for instance, has a bird on the neck, which is a sign of hope since the bird is associated with good things.
I chose this work because it has a lot of meaning in one picture. I think that through the use of the image, I would be in a position to catch the attention of many people to read the book. It generally portrays everything that the work is addressing just by the look of the cover of the book.
