Introduction
Media has been touted to have contributed to 60 percent of crimes and violent behaviors among youths in the world. Social media has been mainly used by violent extremist groups to recruit children into their terrorist acts, and they have been lured using goodies and money, this ends up turning the behaviors of our young ones in the society into bad practices and violent conducts since they are mostly idle and get carried away easily by situations (Anderson, 2012). Youths usually spend 60 percent of their time during the day watching the TV and through they are more exposed to watching violent and sexually oriented films that make them develop crime behaviors, rape behaviors, use of drugs and substance abuse which is a contemporary modern issue that is affecting our youth in the society.
The main problem with these negative films on our TVs is that they impact a lot in the emotions of our youths whereby they end up trying to implement what they saw on the television. This has resulted in increased neighborhood crimes and mass shootings in schools by the youths. For example, a gunman killed ten people at a mall in Frankfurt, Germany and the most shocking thing is that it was an 18-year-old child who committed such an atrocious act (Bushman, 2016). Medical examinations were conducted, and it concluded that the gunman had psychiatric issues and violent behaviors, but if you carefully look at the situation you will discover that this child was too much into watching war movies and violent video games, this had slowly started to affect his psychology status and through peer influence it has resulted in the child now resulting in mass shooting and other violent forms of behaviors like crime.
Media is an excellent component in ensuring the society is updated in terms of events and keep the society members fast-tracked in terms of information being relayed. However, our community has developed a negative breed of culture through the youths who are negatively using the internet and social media to advance their violent and extremist behaviors (Bushman, 2016). Mostly violent video games have contributed immensely to the development of negative culture within the society, and more particularly this has made so many youths join extremist groups so that they may practice what they tout as "passion," on top get money and this has been a significant concern in the society. They end up killing their brothers, and the saddest thing is that our parents allowed them to spend most of their time to play violent video games, watch war movies and spend most of the time in social media using their phones.
Parents are also feeling the effects as a result of poor parenting styles, whereby the children have started developing extremist behaviors which are making them disrespect their parents and even some consequence to killing their parents and can you imagine a society that produces children who do not respect their parents, this depicts how rotten our culture has become since the inception of media and I can proudly say that in the past, when there was no social media and television the children then were involved in studies and household chores that kept them engaged and at instance did you even hear them disrespecting their parents and our culture was preserved (Anderson, 2012). The issue here is contemporary since it is currently what's happening in today's society and a contentious issue that has raised numerous demands over the years.
