There are many lessons from the book 'Half-Broke Horses' by Jeannette Walls based on the key aspects that the story portrays. The first lesson from the story is that life is full of challenges and it is the role of humans to overcome such problems. Lily lives with both her parents, but still, she has to undergo many challenges in life-based on her parent's present condition. She is raised from a humble family where there are several challenges that she has to overcome. She is such an academic achiever when she attends Catholic school. The challenges that she goes through in life are just as part of discouraging factors. She does not lose hope in life, but instead, she keeps on pressing. As the conditions get even worse, Lily decides to live her family members as she moves to Chicago where she is yet to find out other related opportunities in life. She emerges to be a successful person in life, and she can achieve all her life target goals.
The second lesson that a person can learn from the story is that, when God has closed a window, he then opens the other door, and it is the role of a person to locate the specific point for the door to use. It is obvious from the novel that at the beginning, Lily, a character in the book is brought from a humble family and a family that faces financial challenges and economic hardship. After realizing that she cannot make it in such a hard life, she decides to make a move where she has to locate her destiny. As she moves from Texas, she is married to a man where she starts a new life. Lily's mother is such a strong person who believes that God has the powers to bless. The mother keeps on praying to the family for a good life. The mother believes that everything that takes place happens through the will of God the almighty father.
The next lesson that learned from the reading is that Lily was a determined person, a character with a person and courage. Before she is married, the story reveals that she finds her way out into teaching during the period of world wars two. Despite many challenges that she went through when she was a little child, she never gave up. She was such determined to get higher education and even to be a teacher. The challenges that she was facing could not make her make a u-turn. It is important to note that the father always instilled the spirit of working hard and always working hard and never going back. Lily goes ahead to explain the fact that her father was always a philosopher and did not have a theory of going back despite the challenges one could face in life. Everyone should learn to appreciate the fact that everything that takes place in life has its purpose and the purpose should keep you working hard towards overcoming such obstacles.
The next lesson learned from the story is that, when opportunity knocks, one should learn to accept and embrace that without hesitation. Lily realized that teaching is a calling that she had to embrace, as she believes that, teachers are like holly-angels whose work is to lead and provide way out for their angels. When Lily realized that, there was a job of teaching at Mormon settlement; she was the first person who managed to grab that wonderful opportunity even though other people were unwilling to show interest. She managed to move alone in her horse down the hill. At the age of sixteen, Lily managed to locate her dream life principle and ambitions.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Lily managed to grow into a woman who nobody could break her ways of life despite the challenges. Her story has lessons to any other person who gets a chance to listen and to follow her life steps. Challenges are part of life, and it is the responsibility of every individual to work hard and find way out through which to overcome such obstacles.
