The main sense of Gabriel Conroy's is on the restraint of behavior and the reputation he had with his aunt. Gabriel is taken as a man full of caution and authority; his confidence is tested and attributed by having two women in the challenge. He does not give credit to his education, and he begins by giving in the aspect of her inability to relate to the other individuals. Gabriel has a lot of money that he uses to console himself to aid him to differentiate himself with others. The essence of Gabriel not able to respond to the questions in a full response, he enters into a slow way of answering the question by taking his country to be tired off. Gabriel makes his country to account that it is already sick due to the issues that he was experiencing due to a shortage of full knowledge on the multiple issues he was facing individually. There is also the loss of control by Miss Ivors to Gabriel due to lack of full response on the question he had been asked about his country. Moreover, Gabriel is seen expressing frustrations due to lack of attention by Gretta. This entire scenario made him break into tears, and Gretta responds to him by telling him that she was reiterating on the song that had been singing to her while she was in Galway. Gretta remembers about Furey's death and later falls asleep. Gabriel remains not to close his eyes the whole night, and this was contributed by the information he was told about Michael Furey.
