Communicating with Someone Who is Grieving
1. Listen more and talk less
Normally, when talking to an individual who is experiencing a challenging moment, talking is a crucial way of calming them. During the discussion, it is crucial to give them more time to express themselves, thus relieving the stressing condition. (Lindwall-Bourg, 2017)
2. Creating a joyful moment, especially by smiling
Smiling is a crucial way a person can use to show love and acceptance to an individual who is suffering from grieving. Love and acceptance help in creating a good relationship, which assists in overcoming challenging moments. (Schonfeld et al., 2016)
3. Share a similar story to the affected individual
Generally, sharing a similar story assists individuals suffering from grieving to understand how to counter the issue. The approach impacts the individual to survivable mechanisms that help in restoring smile again to their life. (Nurrakhmi & Mustikasari, 2020)
4. Embracing feelings that show how they are valuable to society.
When an individual is suffering from such grieving, they do not feel they worth on a particular social level. Therefore, showing their value helps in restoring joy in their face, which is a critical aspect in overcoming the existing issue. Lagoni, L. (2014).
5. Allowing the affected individual to shed tears by not stopping them from crying.
Normally, crying is a crucial approach way that individuals use to get rid of stress hormones. Therefore, allowing them to cry helps an individual to easily overcome ongoing stress. If one is controlled from crying, the grieving condition may take a long time, thus affecting an individual for a long period. (Barbieri, 2017)
