Introduction
Lawyers have become part of our society, and most importantly, a legal entity to interpret the law and legal affairs. The profession has attracted numerous candidates, us the increase for law interpretation, advising of the clients on legal affairs, and interpret regulations to ensure their clients are aware of their legal rights. While the main focus of the profession remains the representation of the clients, lawyers have an extensive responsibility of working with other bodies to ensure that the legal ruling is made, based on the provided evidence. Therefore, the essay elucidates on the profession diversity and the entry requirements.
Lawyers have a collective responsibility of representing both privet and public bodies in the legal bindings and presenting the grievances, which are geared towards defending the complainants in legal representation. While the profession remains to be densely populated, the occupation requires a set of restriction for its entry.
The Occupation Requirements
The journey to the entry of the profession is perhaps deemed as one of the most demanding, especially considering the educational qualification requirements. According to Strømme and Hansen (2017), becoming a lawyer usually take seven back-breaking years of fulltime involvement. The inspiring candidate has to undergo four years of undergraduate study, followed by three years of law school. As Abel (2017), observed, most of the jurisdictions and States require that lawyers complete a Juris Doctor (J.D) degree from reputable law school, accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA). The profession requires a deeper understanding of the law and maintaining standards. Therefore, ABA accreditation implies that the school meets specific standards and requirements.
Most of the law schools require a minimum of a bachelor’s degree for entry, with a specified grade in specific courses such as English, history public speaking mathematics, and economics. The specification of these courses marks the beginning of comprehending the profession and how other professions come into play. Additionally, most of the approved schools, especially those approved by the ABA, applicants are required to undertake the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) to help measure the applicant’s aptitude for law study.
Employment
Government agencies, recruit and employ newly graduated lawyers to help track and identify the authenticity of each lawyer in practice. Part-time jobs or summer internships in government agencies, law firms, and corporate legal departments provide volumes of valuable experience. According to Abel, (2017) small law firms take the initiative of employing law students not to exploit them, but help reshape their career, from the start through giving the hands-on experience, and how to deal with dynamic situations in the field.
Newly hired lawyers are considered to be raw and eager to set the ball rolling. However, they are considered inexperienced and vulnerable to undertake significant cases. Therefore, the hired attorneys usually start their journey in the employment career via working in teams of mover experienced lawyers, how-to guide them to ensure that they follow the right procedure and concepts in the field. Even though the entire profession is demanding when it comes to time and resources, a minimal number of attorneys are employed after they graduate from law school. Therefore, most of those who do not get lucky enough to be employed are not left out but instead focus on establishing or partnering with their members to become part of an independent firm, which operates under the laws in acquiring clients and gaining an opportunity to work with of judiciary system.
