Introduction
Women are an essential element in family prosperity ever since ancient times. The role of women in family success dates back in history. They are placed in specific positions in the society by the cultural, religious and economic status of their family. Women, especially in third world countries and other cultural and religious oriented compositions, suffer oppression to take full responsibility for their families. Historical evidence show defined duties to be performed by women in the communities they exist. My primary interest will deal with old Arabic women to show their oppression due to cultural and religious aspects of their lives. My attention brings about the growing passion on the ability of the traditional woman to fulfill her family responsibilities. It was despite the oppressive culture that perceived women as unequal to men. All these times women population in the Arabian society has outnumbered men, but their opinion has never counted. Dealing with the elderly Arabic women will ensure that the project captures the best scenario of events in the past. In this project paper, I will discuss the lives of old women in the United Arabs Emirate (UAE) showing the challenges, obstacles, and restrictive barriers that position her in the society to show efforts in empowering women in the Gulf region. This project directly to creating awareness to the principle stakeholders especially women and policy formulators, and feminists on the strength of the past Arabian women. The project will serve as a preservation of the past women heritage.
Traditionally, women in Arab culture are born homemakers, but, their effort and daily struggles pass unnoticed. Men dominance and absence in family roles perceive to be usual. The crucial role played by women especially the elderly mothers in the collective cultural lifestyle goes unnoticed. Families in UAE live collectively under the same roof to preserve their lineage and family ties. The older women have to ensure that their family sticks together and functions of every family member maintain their traditional heritage. I want to create awareness of the strength of the past women recognizing their role in the society especially in patriarchal setups where women only confine in kitchens, child care, and straightforward careers. The struggle for the balance suffered by these women to harmonize their roles shows the many challenges they faced in their day-to-day lives to make their family unit strong. The old women in Arabic homes in UAE ensure generational continuity of their cultural and religious beliefs to the extent of passing on retrogressive oppressions to their daughters, nieces, and daughter in laws.
Although women's oppression was a global affair, in the Emirates, women were taking part in family support especially in the absence of their husbands and lack of representation in the professional fields. The engagement in the active development of the social image of women, they were starting to get international recognition for their effort in civic and family building. Data captured in the report by Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs, (2018) show that in the Gulf nations, women in the past were rarely engaged in formal education and work sectors. The female population forms 56 percent of the total population census, making them develop a considerable population of the non-working community. However, from the past women in the Emirates are not well represented in working-class segments and also the educated elites. The majority of women predominate in the educational professions with only 30% of the women in the entire population participate in critical decision-making processes of their governments. Therefore, to achieve the goals of this project, it's necessary to recognize available platforms to acknowledge the efforts made by UAE women in the past.
Moreover, women in the UAE lag far behind their male counterparts with huge gaps, due to their misrepresentation in participation in commercial businesses. In the past, cultural discriminations have only placed women in the Gulf region in household chores. They are not expected to leave their homes event during shopping without the male escort. Therefore, even the small representation of women in corporate and governmental jobs demand strict security whenever they are going out of their homes. The life that women in the Emirate lives make them stay-home-mothers who are taking care of their family and ensuring family unity. The old women in the region suffer pathetic poverty due to the cultural marginalization of women. Despite, their misrepresentation in economic and decision making processes in their countries, women in the Emirates are responsible for ensuring adequate provision and sustainability of the entire family. The burden of the women mainly due to the cultural state of extended family structures gives women a lot of work to make sure the family stayed united and provided sufficiently. The presence of Emirate men in not felt due to their inactive roles in the households.
In this project, I have made efforts to review existing literature on women empowerment in the United Arab Emirates to show shots of the Emirates leaders to enhance women's participation in socio-economic empowerment. The Gulf region government has in recent past played tremendous efforts to go against religious and cultural to empower women in the Arabian nations. Despite, key persons making public remarks to substantiate women's position in the Arabic society, government efforts through the then president Sheikh Mohammad December 2013, shows their dedication to make women find a better place in the nation. The objective of inclusion of women in the UAE in all sectors of life saw the merger of their welfare associations to provide a single platform to address historical injustices of women in the society.
In this initiative, I will pull efforts to highlight challenges hindering effective empowerment of women in the UAE. Overwhelming rejection by men of women participation in historically male-dominated practices is the primary facing stakeholders in women empowerment process. In the past, women in the UAE were confined in family care while men spent many months away from trading and other business-related issues. The role of women in UAE communities has expanded due to empowerment efforts with some even securing leadership positions. Due to male domination in different social development positions women in the Emirates expose to harassment from men who think lowly of their ability to handle development issues outside the home.
Conclusion
In conclusion, many challenges emanating from women's position in the Emirates date back in history. The empowerment measures taken by the governments and other feminist stakeholders show considerable effort to liberate women from traditional cultures and religions that have oppressed Arabian women through history in diminishing efforts. Therefore it's vital for this project to show considerable awareness platforms to ensure that significant stakeholders find the current position of women bondage to oppressive cultures and religions. Women play a pivotal contribution to the sustainable development of the nations globally. Therefore, their financial and network exposure will help them realize their full potential to boost the economy of the Gulf region. Active enforcement of affirmative initiatives will also make a considerable contribution to ensure that laid down policy of women empowerment are into practice. Given the chance and efficient platform, I would use media and social media platforms like making an awareness campaign mobile phone application to enlighten the entire female fraternity in the UAE. In future, a project can address on access to education and women empowerment in the Gulf region.
