The speech I Have a Dream by Martin Luther King, was not only a legal brief on all the intricacies that took place during the period of the Civil Rights Movement, nor a logical exposition on the plight of black Americans, but it was a zealous emotional speech that was forged out of the spirit of democracy and language. Kings sincerity, magnetism and the mastery of spoken word raised platitude for commandment. According to King, a perfect world is where people are treated equally without discrimination, and where the minorities are not marginalized (Holland).

Thomas Jefferson is famous for writing the Declaration of Independence. He was an incredible, a thinker, a man who believed in the rights of individuals and the third president of the United States of America. The document he wrote stated the importance of the freedoms and rights of all people. It stated that all men were equal and also the reasons why the colonialists wanted to separate from England (Jefferson and Sam). This man believed in the ideals that were written in the Declaration of Independence. The rights enumerated in the document were the unalienable rights to liberty, life and the pursuit of happiness. Through this document, Jefferson was able to define freedom.

Elizabeth Cady Stanton was among the women who were involved in the Declaration of Sentiments and Resolution. This Declaration of Sentiments became the draft that the womens rights movement and the suffrage movement used. There were a total of nine laws that were resolved at the convention. They included equality; that behaviors required of a woman in the social state had to be shown by the men as well, and that women had the right to elective franchise. From the three documents, the Declaration of Independence was the document that was more persuasive. The document was able to show the bad side of monarchy which was the only form of government that existed. It also shows the importance of upholding the rights of individuals; both basic and natural rights (Stanton). When colonialists broke away from the British government, it showed that the civilians could revolt from a government that did not uphold the rights of people.

The three summaries form the basis for analyzing the substantive issues that would make Houston Texas a great city and ways of improving the quality of life. Just like from the statements by More in his book Utopia, a great society is the one that encourages and upholds the freedom of all in the society. Some of the issues that can make Houston Texas a great city are political and economic dimensions among others. Economic freedoms ensure that people are free to engage in any economic activity without restrictions. This is the unalienable right to pursue happiness as shown in the Declaration of Independence. Emulating the economic freedom can help Houston Texas become a great city. This is because there are no restrictions on the business activities residents set up, so long as they are legal.

Political freedom, on the other hand, involves people being allowed to choose their leaders without being unwarranted influenced (Mannheim). This will contribute to tranquility and peace that will enhance the Houston Texas society. Great leaders with vision, those that can influence others, a person of integrity and character can take Houston Texas to the next level. This can only be possible if the will of people is respected in electing their leaders.

In summary, there are various documents in the past written by great people that can influence the current leaders in improving the lives of people. Use of this literature by Martin Luther King, Thomas Jefferson and Elizabeth Cady Stanton can help make a society where there is equality and where the rights of people are respected.
