As human beings, we all want to be happy. Many people often wonder what it truly means to be satisfied. As we continue to pursue relationships, money, and success, we soon realize that happiness does not come from external sources, but rather it has to come from within each of us. In most cases, we are so fixated on achieving our goals that we do not have the time to enjoy our paths to those goals. In the quest to become happy in life it is essential first to accept the reality that external things cannot make us happy by only what is going on inside each of us can truly make us happy.
The first step to becoming a happy person is to choose to be happy. One of the ways of doing that is to observe common factors about happy people to identify what they do to make them happy, how they think and how they face challenges. Becoming clear about what you want in life is an essential part of choosing to become a happier person. In many situations, people are unable to achieve happiness due to negative beliefs that they have learned from their parent, friends and even from the society. It is important to recognize that happiness is not inherited or acquired from other people but rather it has to be created from within.
Another step towards becoming a happier person is to take responsibility for your life. There are many excuses or reasons why we are not as happy or successful as we should be but they do not matter since they do not change anything. The happiest people around us are not really from privileged backgrounds. Most of them have faced challenges in the quest to become who they are. The important thing is that happy people do not see their challenges or problems are obstacles to becoming happy but instead they use them as opportunities to excel and improve their lives.
If we want to be happy, we should set clear goals which we would like to achieve in each of our major in life. The major areas in our lives are personal development, relationships, work, and health. The best way to achieve this is to set goals that are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely (SMART). In setting the purposes it is always advisable to use your intuition on how to achieve each of your goals and not to force yourself into any set formulas for success. The most effective way of doing that going with the flow and discovering that how you see the world around you determines your happiness.

Finally, if we want to be happy, we must learn how to take one step at a time. By making one step each day toward your goal, you increase your chances of attaining true happiness. Living a happy life involves learning how to focus your mind and take control of tasks that have the most important to your life. Taking upon too much at one time leads to exhaustion and disillusion which make one unhappy. In general, being happy has a lot to do with the choices we make as individuals and how we perceive the world around us. So go ahead and choose to be happy and start seeing the world from another perspective if you truly want to be happy in life.
