The world is thrust in endless streams of confusions and paradoxical dilemma that mere words cannot explain. In attempt to unravel some of these underlying mix-ups in the society has prompted the advancement and development of philosophical understanding. Philosophy not only explains the structure of human nature from their existence until their demise but also other factors in the ecosystem that affects life in one way or another (Smith, 1989). This means that philosophy affects life in many ways and can also be portrayed in many forms like psychology, physics, biology, music among many other factors. There are many other ways that can help to show how philosophical issues in this case music in the modern era can be found in our everyday lives and also how they affect us as human beings. One way of disseminating the basics and elementary understanding of philosophy is through music which has a way of reaching out to the elementary knowledge of philosophy. Music is a combination of audio sounds that form a rhythmical flow and one of the main contributing factors in philosophy. Music is used to communicate, rally for someone or something, expression of feelings and also pure entertainment (Smith, 1989). The essential of philosophy is to express the value of life to the audience just as music has done through the breakdown into various elementary of genres and groups.
Music portrays how individuals feel; this can be through triggering of emotions. Philosophy by itself unearths a deep underlying concepts of life; evils, good, corruptions and morality in the society. One can have a sad, jovial or a warning message to express through music. The nature of music is described by the message it portrays whether sad or jovial; it speaks straight to the core of human soul and helps in realizing that which the should so dearly longs for. In an example of a song by Hillsong Worship called Seasons, the author expresses the importance of life and how patience is of great value in living. The song communicates neatly to the heart of the audience and makes them realize the need to respect the changes in life; this is a true life philosophy. In the first verse of the song, the audience sees the growth of a human being compared to a seed buried in the snow during the winter season and its continued hope for growing despite being embedded in the unfriendly ecosystem. Whereas these are typical realities in life, there is every need by the audience to understand and appreciate that life holds more than just what is seen on the periphery.
Like the frost on a rose, Winter comes for us all, Oh how nature acquaints us, With the nature of patience, Like a seed in the snow, I've been buried to grow, For Your promise is loyal, From seed to sequoia Though the winter is long even richer, The harvest it brings, Though my waiting prolongs even greater, Your promise for me like a seed, I believe that my season will come (Hillsong, 2017)
Music is also used as a way of appreciating culture such as the traditional African dialects which were used to this day as a way of understanding different cultures. The African culture, by itself is laced with many philosophical explanations of the realities that define the extent to which the society can develop itself to avoid some of the social norms. An example is the Tanzanian coastal Swahili songs that are used to recognise the coastal culture not only by the communities in their locality but also other parts of the globe. In this case, we see how philosophy has been part of Africanism by showing the value of music; it addresses some of the underlying issues that words alone cannot explain (Smith, 1989). The amount of music has been as well broadcasted by bringing people together in events such as concerts and musical awards globally. During the social events in the African society, people come from all over the globe to share a musical culture of their interest. This way we can see that music as a form of religion through sociology is of significant impact to human lives.
In an example of a song by Kenyan music group Sauti Sol tujiangalie the artists are not only able to bring people together but also encourage them on the essence of hard work. The song is a call for a close examination of the national and cultural paths of the African society. Clearly, it is a call for the communities to come together to realize a common goal. The song philosophically addresses the political class damning corruption, the general leadership and citizenry at large to reexamine their ways of life.
(Tujiangalie (Tujiangalie), Tuko pabaya leo kuliko jana, Sikio la kufa halisikii dawa, Tuko kwa twitter tuna jibizana, Tujiangalie (Tujiangalie), Tuko pabaya leo kuliko jana, Tusipo ziba ufa tuta jenga kuta, Tusake zetu, Tungali vijana (Sauti Sol, 2018).
Conclusion
In conclusion, it is proper to say that music is a crucial player in the philosophical world. As seen from the discussions above, music can be used to describe various factors in the world of philosophy hence portraying multiple philosophical issues in the real world life.
