Introduction

Literature serves more than just the purpose of educating and entertaining. At times, it plays the role of eliciting or evoking human emotions and feelings. And, this explains the emergence of genres such as horror films that are specifically dedicated to eliciting emotions of fear and fright among the audiences. Film directors and scriptwriters thus create content that revolves around the plot of fear. And, in most cases, supernatural beings or forces intruding into the daily lives of the audiences are invoked. And, as a result, feelings of fear, fright, tension, and panic engulf the audience of this genre every time they watch the horrifying scenes. The genre has gained much popularity, with various content creators and directors aiming at producing the most horrifying and scariest films. All this is aimed at leaving a mark in the genre. Therefore, any new director or scriptwriter of the genre has to ensure that he or she is acquainted with what is happening in the industries. And, this is possible through creating establishing networks that expose one to other directors, scriptwriters, and fans of the horror genres. It is for this reason that I plan to attend some festivals aimed at celebrating the genre and meet fans and other directors as part of gaining networks that will help me in my upcoming short horror film. The following are the events and how they will help me in my upcoming film:

Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival - Sitges, Catalonia/Spain, 51st year in 2018 - RHoFa7, AfEFFFF, R100, FIAPF, MMGenre15, MMHoFa, MM25, HR20

Over the years, the horror film genre has gained much popularity leading to earning a slot in film festivals. And, this year's Sitges International Fantastic film festival, formed to celebrate the fantastic genre, in its 51st anniversaries explore the role of women in movies based on seminal movies. Several films within the horror genre will be celebrated at the event. They include films such as John Carpenter's Halloween released in 1978. The film which is tied into a retrospective on films such as slasher, and the famous film A Space Odyssey and the Night of the Living dead, all released in the year 1968 will be feted. The event comes at an opportune time when am preparing for my first horror film. And, I will gather networks during the Q & A session. This will help me know how I can incorporate aspects of women within my target theme. And, I will also gather networks on how the concept of virtual reality is changing the perception of horror movies in today's society.

Fantasia International Film Festival - Montreal, Canada, 22nd year in 2018 - RHoFa20, SuEFFFF, R100, IW100, MMGenre15, MMHoFa, MM50, MM25, nomMMHoSF5, HR20

Creativity is man's biggest asset. It helps him think of a world of endless possibilities. And, it is for this reason that different genres of literature and film are borne out of. For instance, genres such as fantasy and horror films have much in common as far as creativity is concerned. It is for this reason that the Fantasia International Film Festival in the celebration of its 22nd anniversary to be held in Montreal, Canada, decided to celebrate the fantasy genre. I plan to use the event as a springboard to network with creative minds and how the genre of fantasy can blend with the genre of horror films. All this is because, in my short horror films, there are several aspects of fantasy that I would incorporate to make the film capture a wide audience.

Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival / BIFFF - Brussels, Belgium, 36th year in 2018 - RHoFa7, AfEFFFF, FIAPF, MMHoFa, HR20

As part of celebrating its 36th anniversary, the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festivals held an event where exhibitions, magical creatures, and ghoul entertainment were brought together under one roof. The event held between 3rd and 15th of April this year took the audience through the surreal world of fantasies and everything pertaining the genre. And, the event did not stop there as the audience was taken to the famous Vampire Ball where over 150 films were shown for the first time. The event is important to me because it gave me a chance to interact directly and indirectly with a wider audience who appreciate horror films. This is key to my upcoming films because it grants me a chance to know what people love and appreciate in a horror film.

Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival / BiFan (formerly Puchon / PiFan) - Bucheon, South Korea, 22nd year in 2018 - RHoFa7, SuEFFFF, R100, MMGenre15, MMHoFa

Getting a chance to showcase one's work at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) is a dream come true for any fan. And, granted the chance to attend the BIFAN event running from 12th July to 22nd July 2018 will allow me to network with various exhibitors and movie directors from different parts of the world. The event will allow me to showcase my short horror film to the different stakeholders who are well versed in the genres of fantasy and horror films.

Fantastic Fest - Austin, Texas, US, 14th year in 2018 - RHoFa20, SuEFFFF, R100, IW100, MMGenre15, MMHoFa, MMHoSF5, MM25, HR20

As one of the largest genre film festivals in the United States, the Fantastic Fest, which specializes in the genres of horror, fantasy, actions and sci-fi among others is a perfect place to showcase one's work on any of the genres covered. Given that I have a short horror film that depicts a trade-deal where the life of a young child is spared in exchange for the soul of his firstborn child, the event at Austin Texas celebrating the 14th year in 2018 will help me create stronger network and ties that will not only aid in marketing my upcoming film but will allow me to gain fresh insights that will help me breakthrough in the highly competitive industry. The insights from the audience, guests, industry players, the press, and other stakeholders will provide a perfect chance for me to network and hone my skills in the genre of horror films.

FrightFest - London, UK, 19th year in 2018 - RHoFa7, foEFFFF, MMGenre15, MMHoFa, HR20

Formed with the objective of providing the United Kingdom market with a festival that celebrates the horror-fantasy genre, the FrightFest event to be held in London will provide me with a perfect opportunity to network and learn more about the horror film genre. This will play a key role in knowing how I can improve on the thematic concerns of my upcoming film as well as knowing what the market needs. The knowledge and insights gained from the 19th year edition of the London festival will be of great significance to the European networks that I intend to create from the festivals.

Screamfest Horror Film Festival - Los Angeles, California, US, 18th year in 2018 - RHoFa7, SuEFFFF, MMHo13, HR20

As one of the longest and largest horror films gracing the screens of the United States, the Screamfest Horror Film Festival is a perfect event to showcase my work. This is because of the rich networks that I will gain by attending the 18th year of the events to be held in Los Angeles, California. The event will help me connect with American directors, scriptwriters, audience and other stakeholders. This is a crucial opportunity to allow me to learn from the best in the game as the American horror film is one of the richest and colorful in the world. Besides, there us much hope in the event as showcasing my work there would put me in the same category as most filmmakers who have garnered representation and distribution from the events. And, it will also accord me an opportunity such as the one in Screamfest of 2001, where writers and filmmakers in the sci-fi/horror genre were given a chance to showcase their works to stakeholders in the industry.

Fantasporto International Film Festival - Porto, Portugal, 38th year in 2018 - RHoFa7, foEFFFF, HR20

There are events that are specifically suited towards bringing top-notch and upcoming productions house from different parts of the world. One such event that gives new productions is the Fantasporto International Film festivals. This year's event will be held in the Portuguese capital of Porto. In celebration of its 38th year in 2018, the event is crucial to me and my upcoming film because of the rich network of production houses ranging from fantasy, sci-fi and horror genres from all over the world that will convene at the festivals. I will get the chance to share my ideas and also to learn more ideas about the film and the genre. And, this will allow me to integrate all the insights that I will gain from the pool of networks I will create from the different film cultures showcased at the event.

Toronto After Dark Film Festival - Toronto, Canada, 13th year in 2018 - RHoFa7, MMHo13, HR20

After carefully crafting my film and creating a plot that revolves around the theme of fear and fright created when human beings are unable to repay debts they take against their souls, I plan to submit my work to various fora. And, the After Dark Film Festival to be held in Toronto, Canada in 2018 proves to be a great opportunity to showcase my work. The festival's call for entries is on and using the Freeway or Withoutabox platform makes it a perfect way to share my work before the due date of 27th July 2018. Having my work showcased in the festivals will be a great opportunity to show the world on what I can contribute towards the horror film genre. The event will also be a chance to create long-lasting networks on not only this film but also on my upcoming films in the genre.

A Night of Horror International Film Festival - Sydney, Australia, 12th year in 2018 - RHoFa20

Having your work showcased at one of the most colorful events that celebrate the most horrific works is a major plus in one's career as an upcoming scriptwriter or director in the horror genre films. It is for this reason that I plan on submitting my work for consideration at this year's "A Night of Horror International Film Festivals" in Sydney Australia. It will be a perfect opportunity for my work to get proper airplay in countries as far as Australia. Also, the chance will grant me an opportunity to network and share my perspective of the horror film genre in the Australian continent. And, I will also get the opportunity to integrate some positive insights from the panel on what I can do to make my work better.

Lund International Fantastic Film Festival - Malmo/Lund, Sweden, 24th year in 2018 - RHoFa20, AfEFFFF, HR20

The event provides a perfect opportunity for me to showcase my upcoming work in the Malmo/Lund Sweden. It gives new film producers the chance to showcase their works and submit them for consideration regardless of their ethnicity, gender, age, and sexuality. Short and feature films are acceptable at this event. Therefore, I have the chance to try out my luck in the festivals.

Monster Fest - Melbourne, Australia, 8th year in 2018

In celebrating the 8th year of the Monster Fest festivals in Melbourne, Australia, new short and feature films within the genre are accepted. And, this provides a perfect opportunity for me to submit my work for consideration. Granted the chance, I look forward to gaining new networks in the Australia and market and to learn on what I can do in my films to capture a wide market.
