From the perspective of this documentary, it can be learned that cancer and diabetes are chronic diseases with major impact on global health. Research shows that people with diabetes are at high risk of acquiring many forms of cancer. According to Dr. Robert Ratner, a researcher at American Diabetes Association, approximate 350 million people are dying of diabetes worldwide annually (Sud). Based on this documentary, the research shows that cancer and Type 2 diabetes share related risk factors and such entail the amount of sugar consumed, baking, sausages, and coined meat, lack of physical activity, aging and nature of diet.
In this documentary, the investigators endorse that taking 50 grams portion of the processed meat on a daily basis increases the risks of colorectal cancer by 18%. Based on the World Health Organization reports, foods such as hot dogs, smoky, sausages are categorized as group one contingents (Sud). As well, other group one contingents include tobacco smoking, plutonium, and posttests. Notably, the Type 2 diabetes is associated with liver, breast, colon or spectrum, pancreases, and endometrium cancer. The potential mechanisms which are associated with cancer and diabetes are inflammation, hyperinsulinemia, and hyperglycemia.
In this documentary, it is portrayed that the risk of the processed meat even though it does not appear in the American Cancer society websites is high as depicted by Dr. Alan Goldhamar whereby 70% of the patients affected by cancer or diabetes are as a result of the food (Sud). Every one out of four deaths today is either as a result of diabetes or cancer. Moreover, the cancer causes are as results of the group one contingents such as processed meat, tobacco cigarettes, Smokey's, sausages. While the diabetes is attributed to aging, lack of exercise, and too much sugar intake.
According to Dr. Michael Greger, a researcher on diabetes in children, most of the children aged ten years are mostly affected by heart attacks in America (Sud). Two out of three kids in America are overweight; meaning in the next five to ten years a quarter of the population in the United States will be suffering diabetes. Dr. Neal Barnard, a researcher on diabetes, reveals that diabetes is usually caused by consuming too much sugar. According to Dr. Barnard, sugar builds up in the bloodstream creating a high blood pressure.
From the basis of accentuation in the documentary, the research shows that 8% to 18% of the patients' population living with cancer also has diabetes (Sud). Many people are aware of being diagnosed with diabetes whereas in a real sense they suffer cancer; others may only discover it later while diagnosed or treated for cancer. It is, therefore, vital to properly take care of diagnostics during the cancer treatment and if possible test diabetes before treating cancer. Additionally, high blood sugar levels caused by diabetes can weaken the body immune system which needs to be strong in to fight cancer cells. Diabetes can delay treatment of cancer or risk infection at the time of cancer treatment.
As underscored in this documentary, the possible control of diabetes and cancer includes regular exercise; this is a natural means of controlling the blood pressure by removing the excessive sugar or chemical in the body through sweating (Sud). Avoid smoking, Smokey's, processed meat, hot dogs, and sodas as a means of controlling diabetes and cancer. Stress reduction is also another way of managing diabetes. By observing proper nutrition and balanced diet, it is also a sound preventive measure.
Conclusion
To conclude, this documentary presented three investigators who were trying to compare the link between diabetes and cancer from the angle of the major causes, association, effects as well as treatment. One of the investigations reveals that the treatment of the Type 2 diabetes can lower the risk of developing cancer and as a result increase the survival chances of the people with cancer. Another study shows that thiazolidinediones can reduce the risk factor for certain cancer even though American Food and Drugs Administration in 2011 issued a warning concerning the use of thiazolidinediones due to pioglitazone actors. However, none of the investigations has linked the therapies with any effects. According to the documentary the causes of cancer and diabetes are connected to the food.
