There are global outcries that call for conservation of the natural environment. Scottsdale, in Arizona, is following this call. The Office of Environmental Initiatives, OEI, assists the residents of Scottsdale on any issues on to the environment. Additionally, the OEI is the resource for the Environmental Regulatory Compliance. It is also tasked with the provision of funds to be used by the community for environmental sustainability (Scottsdale, 2018). With this, Scottsdale looks up to managing its environment and bringing out the comfort enjoyed by the citizens. Nonetheless, local governments and people in a given community can also follow the green movement. There is a myriad of ways to achieve this direction.

The first approach towards solving a problem is to observe the problem. Every member of a society should be mandated with the security of the resources of the given community. Being aware of the environment one is living in would help in identifying if the same environment is being destroyed. In his website, Sami Grover portrays the sediments that are going green demands being part of the respective community (Grover, 2007). He stresses on self-awareness and individual involvement when it comes to matters of the community. With increased vigilance, going green would be more comfortable through community involvement. Additionally, the local government would have less expenditure attributed to the maintenance of the environment.

Exhaust gases are the significant wastes from human activities. A green initiative should address this issue. Moving from one place to another does not necessitate the involvement of a car. Trains or commuter buses for movement into or out of a city would reduce not only the menace of traffic congestion but also reduce the number of exhaust fumes emitted in the air when compared to the private transport system. Local governments should even get a natural gas powered, electric or hybrid vehicles when purchasing new ones (Thompson, 2018). However, many people are unaware of the ways of living green. People should explain to others why they cycle to work or buy organic (Grover, 2007). Cutting toxic emissions helps in reducing the effects of climate change, reduces risks of chest infections from inhalation of poisonous gases and limits the occurrence of acidic rain that is responsible for altering soil acidity.

Reusing abandoned fields as solar energy farms is also a good directive of going green (Green, 2011). Local governments can bear with the initial cost of putting up solar farms in the open spaces left when a piece of public land is not under use to get the corresponding source of electric energy for use by the local government. The energy obtained, if stored, can be used to power street lights during the night. Moreover, the fields can also be restructured into parks, adding to the available social amenities and beauty of the locality.

Conclusion

Conserving the environment is no longer an obligation. It is mandatory. Every stakeholder in the environment is required to work towards making the world around them better and healthy to sustain life. Climate change is upon us, and the adverse effects pose a threat to the survival of humanity. Looking after the environment is an individual effort.
