Greek and Egyptian Fashion Essay

Egyptian fashion remains my favorite due to the nature of their clothing, from the ancient times, Egyptian clothing entailed several distinct colors. Nonetheless, the clothes were characterized by precious gems and jewels (Johnstone & Janet 51). Interestingly, the ancient Egyptian fashion wear was not only meant for beauty but also comfort as the clothes were made in such a way that those putting them on could keep cool yet they were in a hot desert. Similarly, the Greeks also play a central role when it comes to my favorite fashions; it is undeniable that the Greeks way of cloth making required a lot of skills as their clothes appeared to be more unique. For instance, little cutting and sewing were involved during the cloth making process. Moreover, ornaments were often fixed within the clothes to give them a dazzling look (Lee & Mireille 31).

The way in which the men of Greece and men of Egypt put on, plays a pivotal role in bringing out the aspect of the difference between the two fashions. According to Johnstone & Janet (2016), the ancient Egyptian Men wore a wrap-around skirt which was fastened using a belt around their waist. In some cases, the material equally wrapped their legs. The skirt length was made to vary in response to the current demand for shorter dresses. On the other hand, men of Greece put on tunics called Chiton which were big squares cloths held tight around the shoulder using pins. However, these two fashions were similar as they both displayed a brilliant taste of color. Furthermore, both the Greeks and Egyptians incorporated ornaments such as diamond and gold in their cloth-making process to boost the appearance of the clothes.

Today, many people tend to display their love for the ancient Egyptian and Greece fashion by merging the old and new styles. For instance, Cleopatra is known for her fashion which mostly consists of a skilfully combined Greek and Egyptian elements. Nonetheless, the present day peplum has been crafted based on the ancient Greek peplos style; it includes a relatively long tube-like garment with a belt keenly placed at the waist (Lee & Mireille 23). The peplum has also been skilfully folded giving a misapprehension of a flared piece of fabric around the hips.

Conclusion

In conclusion, both the Greek and Egyptian fashion reflect the creative ideas occasioned by the cultural, political and economic spheres of life. Nonetheless, their view and way of fashion are not only geared towards uniqueness but also towards some vital needs such as comfort making life interesting, because of these reasons, the present day fashion tries to integrate and improve the two kinds of style with the aim of meeting perfection in the world of fashion.
