Introduction
Today's society is faced with issues of gender and sexuality. In fact, the gender divide has been one of the most important topics discussed by sociologists since it exists in all cultures in the world (Abbott & Wallace, 2016). There are numerous inequalities in all aspects of life since men and women are always seen as opposites. Issues on gender inequalities are seen in the workplace, and in various occupations like nursing and contraction (Fitzsimons, 2017). In this day and age, people should receive equal treatment regardless of their age or gender.
Various research questions in the issue of gender and sexuality can be considered. For instance, how are men and women treated differently in the media, in law, and other interactions? What is the motive behind the formation of women's rights and movements? Which occupations are considered gendered, and why? How is gender inequality portrayed in various jobs? Men and women are usually treated differently in many interactions where the latter are seen as inferior to the former. Women's rights movements in various countries are formed to fight for equalities in family law, in work, to be free from sexual violence and to hold public office, among other reasons. Some occupations that are considered as gendered are nursing and contraction (Fitzsimons, 2017). Gender inequality is portrayed in many jobs where women are paid less money for the same jobs done by men. Inequalities still persist in many offices today despite women being educated, qualified, and competent (Fitzsimons, 2017). The significance of the study is to research the issue of gender and sexuality in society, and explain how the notion of inequalities in different sectors can be stopped.
Summary of the Proposal
The research proposal covers one of the most significant sociology issues of gender and sexuality. The gender divide has been a significant issue in various aspects of life where men and women have always been viewed as opposites. Being seen as opposites leads to differences forms of discrimination in family law, at work, and in the media too. For instance, in some companies, women are paid a lesser amount of money than men when yet they perform similar roles and responsibilities (Fitzsimons, 2017). However, many organizations are pushing for diversity and inclusion to curb the long history of gender imbalance in society.
One of the most significant forms of inequality is the concept regarding gendered occupations. Many occupations are gendered, and examples include nursing, teaching, and public relations. These jobs are perceived to be female-gendered, while professions like engineering, finance, and construction are considered as male-gendered. One of the most significant reasons why gender inequality continues to be manifested in different aspects is that people are still tied to old norms and beliefs. For instance, traditionally, there have been more male applicants in tech and manufacturing industries (Fitzsimons, 2017). However, things have changed, and more women have studied courses like engineering and web development. However, it is still challenging for women to enter the male-dominated space. Women can compete favorably and fairly with their male colleagues, especially for high-end positions and still perform excellently.
Conclusion
In conclusion, gender inequality is still a significant issue in society. If things continued as they are, conflicts would emerge in the future. Change can be done by convincing women to challenge themselves and compete in the male-dominated space to fulfill their dreams. People must change their mentality regarding gendered occupations since it is backward and outdated.
