Introduction
Sex and gender are no longer the standard terms that we knew. Many issues surround gender and sex in the present world. Halberstam, in the book Gaga Feminism: Sex, Gender, and the Edge of Normal, gets deep into the issues that relate to sex and gender. The book uses Gaga as an example to answer some of the questions that are being asked about cultural shifts that recently changed gender and sexual matters. This paper discusses three aspects of Haberstam's conceptions of "Gaga Feminism" and how the concepts help address contemporary feminist activism.
Gaga Feminism, as explained by Habersham in the book Gaga Feminism: Sex, Gender, and the Edge of Normal are the shift of the culture on the conceptualization of love, gender, and marriage (Masters, Cristina 220). It is about how and why women are not married and men not marrying. It explains through the example of a character how there are many lesbians and gays in society. Gaga feminism is the situation in which modern politics engage in the wave of women becoming transgender. It also covers the recent fail of marriages; women rise into the power becoming part of the workforce in nations and educational platforms. It relates it with the increased gays, lesbianism, and trans people in society.
Habersham brings the aspect of change in gender and sex norms to the edge through a pop superstar by the name Lady Gaga. Lady Gaga is a gay who defies many odds to make sense of pregnant men. In Gaga Feminism, Halberstam tries to how people can understand the difference between people involved directly in untaught sexism and embrace it. The book attempts to show how the critics that the new concepts of gender symbols create space for welcoming the different ideas of sex, love, and marriage in the 21st century. The book praises Lady Gaga for her bravery in embracing the change and wanting to bring it out to the people. The insights and prescriptions in Gaga's story help to address the public on the questions that they usually ask about the known culture. The idea would help to expose people to the issues helping them to cope up with it slowly. It builds public engagement with Gaga's example. The example would be able to directly demonstrate to the public in the new generation about the assumptions of the average life of people like Gaga.
The use of real-life examples by Habersham helps people to rethink the usual way of life. The increased in bachelors and spinsters in the society has also led to transformations to trans gender marriages in the community, implying that the move might be the solution to the marriage life. The right conception of Gaga feminism will create an impression that the life path changes will reinforce and reinvest in marriages. It creates awareness for the young generation to internalize and understand the social behaviors and categories of different people. The concept of politics in feminism will change and stop the oppression of gender and sexuality. It also removes the shame tied to the changes and enables people to embrace and accommodate the diverse human variations in our societies.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Gaga Feminism is a demonstration of how people see and conceptualize the change in gender, love, and sex. Through the book, Halberstam tries to answer the questions that some members in the social and political forces ask about transgender marriage relationships. The concepts brought out in the book open the people's eyes and change their idea on the matter.
