Introduction
Australia is a common destination for people seeking international employment. The country has a diverse population with a 28% immigrant share and a low rate of unemployment, 5.8% (Inglis, 2018) which makes it a diverse source of foreign employment. However, to get a job in Australia the seeker has to conduct thorough research on the job market to identify the skills on demand, sort out the required paperwork, make a great resume, and sign up for online job portals because many employers hire online (TransferWise, 2019). Considering the country’s general economic trends, the services sector leads followed by construction, mining, manufacturing, and agriculture respectively, while the key industries include the financial, business consulting, metals and mining, energy and utilities, and the healthcare industries (Australiance, 2018). Lately, the areas with job promise are health care and social assistance, construction, and education and training while the roles currently on high demand are software development, IT business and analysts, construction project management, care work, and marketing management (Darby, 2018).
Vital Details
There are vital details that one should know before traveling or working in Australia. First and most importantly, one will need to have a working holiday visa applied in the Australian Department of Home Affairs’ website. There are 4 types of visas; a short-term temporary skill shortage visa, employer nomination scheme visa that lets you settle permanently, skilled-recognized graduate visa open to recent graduates aged below 31 years and the temporary activity visa for those looking for employment as teaching assistants or with community programs (TransferWise, 2019). Second, the National Travel Health Network and Centre and the WHO recommend vaccinations against yellow fever, Japanese encephalitis, rabies, and tetanus especially if you’re visiting certain remote areas. Third, the Australian national currency is Australian dollars (AUD) that’s split into $5, $10, $20 $50 and $100. One American dollar is equivalent to 1.43 AUD. Lastly, Australia doesn’t have an official language but English is its primary language, however, Australian English differs from others in vocabulary, grammar, and spelling.
Networking
Networking is important in career development because it helps improve one’s skills, stay informed on their industry’s dynamics, meet more professionals in the career and customers, and avail necessary resources. It is important for everyone looking for a job in Australia to identify and affiliate with the most suitable professional networking and career development organization or group in their industry. There are several networking organizations in Australia-among them the recommendable top groups are; American Chamber of Commerce in Australis (AmCham) and the Hive Networking Group. AmCham is the largest international chamber of commerce and premier international business organization that aims to enhance the flow of trade and investment primarily between Australia and the United States, while the Hive is an online business site that connects over 400,000 job seekers and 35,000 businesses around Australia (Click-Winning Content, 2020).
Conclusion
Australia is one of the most beautiful countries globally because of its mountains, beaches, forests and wildlife, the atmosphere, and friendliness and diversity of its occupants. The largest and most varied cities to work in are Sydney, the largest and capital city, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Perth. In Australia socializing is important even at workplaces and workers are given a little more time for vacation-work contracts include about 20 vacation days annually. Nevertheless, Australia is large and before visiting one should expect long road travels and domestic flights between towns, for instance, the flight from Brisbane to Perth will take at least 5 hours or three days driving, the workweek is longer than in most parts of the world, accommodation rental prices are listed as per week, and the sun is hotter and may irritate the skin because of the thin ozone layer in the region thus one should use sunblock on hot days. It’s also important to note that 000 is the emergency number, cars drive on the left, smoking isn’t cool, and never show up to a BBQ empty-handed.
