A sound legal system in developed countries has helped protect the rights of her citizens from business owners. The U.S is one of the developed countries with sound regulations and legal system that have helped solve threatening human rights. In some countries, child abuse, unsafe working environment, poor wage payments, and unfair treatments of workers are major issues affecting her populations.
El Salvador is one of the countries experiencing the problem of violations of human rights. Some of the problems facing workers in El Salvador include delays in the salary, no payment of overtime due, and no free health care for the employees. The workers have no unions that would help in the collective barging power. The employers literally deny the workers the chance to join unions to continue violating their rights. Impeding union registrations is an ethical practice because the workers will have the power to protect their rights and to demand better pay.
Taiwan is also one of the countries where the violation of human is a common practice. The 2016 human right reports showed the legal system in Taiwan is weak and therefore workers suffer much from exploitations. The employers in Taiwan exploit foreign workers, and the officials are corrupt. In Taiwan, there are violations of legal working hours, child abuse, and sexual harassments in the workplace. Despite the fact that the country has an elected president, the problems facing workers have not been solved. There are many reports that indicate that persons with disability are susceptible to exploitation in Taiwan (Bertrand, & Statnik, 2018).
A country that does not protect the employees from exploitations lacks a good business environment. The trade unions are responsible for helping the workers claim their rights. However, in countries such as Taiwan and El Salvador where the legal system is poor, the business environment is not conducive. It is risky to trade with countries where legal systems are not sound because the investors can be victims of exploitations. It is apparent that in countries without trade unions and the protection of laborers, the employer's practices unethical business practices such as cutthroat competitions (Lupu, 2015).
The role of business in the society is to ensure that the standards of living of members of the society are improved. In this case, the businesses in Taiwan and El Salvador are not favoring community and the workers. The employees are frustrated because of poor remunerations, and late payments of services offered. Carrying out a trade with such countries is not a good idea because it taints the image of the company. A foreign company establishing a business in the said countries will suffer from rejections from the existing companies. The established businesses in the country may force a new business to follow suit in violating the labor laws. Often, the existing business does not like a foreign business because they know they have failed to motivate their workers and therefore the new company will betray their evil actions (Bertrand, & Statnik, 2018).
Conclusion
The global image of the business is important and therefore establishing a business in a country where labor laws are not obeyed taints the image of the business. U.S investors may find it difficult to invest in countries such as El Salvador and Taiwan because they fear poor legal systems. Violating the rights of the employees is a bad action that makes the investment decision meaningless.
