Introduction

Jack, the ripper, is one of the bigwigs when it comes to murder cases in London. Most of his alleged cases were unique in their way. The name The Ripper came into existence from his acts to his victims. Furthermore, he also did engage in lots of killing sprees that had similar patterns. He mainly did focus on the prostitutes who lived and worked in East London. He mostly did focus on the abdominal mutilations of his victims while torturing them to death. In fact, most cases with the same pattern were always linked to his name. Investigators have for ages worked trying to get the real facts behind this well-known villain name. Therefore, we are going to expound more on these investigations and the findings. Most of the murder cases come out to be outstanding and pretty much deep and serious. This gives the need for us to be able to dig deep into these cases and get to the core of it all. In fact, these cases bring out an argument that maybe Jack the Ripper was the worst murderer of time looking at how gross these murders were. A recount of these murders and the experiences of the witness brings out a gruesome image of Jack himself and how he did handle the cases and victims at large. When one comes across the name Jack the Ripper, one gets the idea of the Canonical Five. These were the five victims believed to have been murdered by Jack the Ripper.

The Canonical Five is the most treacherous yet gruesome acts of Jack the Ripper. However, for us to be able to get the real picture, we have to start from the beginning. How the name Jack the Ripper came to be. It is believed that this name became well known through a publication that hoisted the murder cases that had for a while been a menace to the people of East London. This particular letter was written, and the author took responsibility for the murders. In fact, the letter was accompanied by a human kidney to show the seriousness of the same. However, some people tend to believe that this so-called letter was non-existent and it was just a scheme used by the news companies to sell their news to the public. However, his seriousness and brutality were perfectly brought out with the five gruesome murders. This was the time when everyone ran into fright and worry, majorly because of the increased brutal murders or prostitutes in East London. At the time, such inhumane cases were unheard of. No one had been able to see the grueling nature before and after death; one is so susceptible to succumbing to the painful pressure of coping up with the new developments. With the influx of these murders, people found the need to be able to tackle the issue head-on.

The Canonical Five will be our major area of study as we try to dig deeper into the murder nature of Jack the Ripper. This will be mainly because these five murders are among the most important keynotes when you look at the way they were able to come out rather outstanding and unique to just a single name, Jack the Ripper. Even though there were some murders believed to have a relationship with The Ripper, Canonical five are the ones whose cases came out pretty much more reflected. Most of the victims were prostitutes because, at the time, there was a big percentage of people moving to the Eastern side of the urban London and therefore this fuelled unemployment. Slowly, there rose odd jobs on the Eastern side such as prostitution to make ends meet. Many people agree with the fact that these so-called murders in the name of The Ripper were not entirely conducted by him but some might have been sheer allegations. Many do argue and highlight the main points of impact that was highly preferred by Jack the Ripper. For instance, one victim Smith who is among the first two cases of Jack the Ripper was robbed then sexually assaulted where her vagina had some blunt object inserted into it. This ruptured her peritoneum and gave her some infection that worsened. She died the next day. Most people almost believed in this act to be that of Jack the Ripper. However, when Smith recounted her experience, it came out that most probably that was a case of gang-related issues.

However, the Canonical five: Mary Ann Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine Eddowes and Mary Jane Kelly have almost similar cases on them. The body of Mary Ann was found severed with two throat cuts and the lower part of the abdomen cut out using a sharp object. She also had some insertions in other places of her abdomen. Chapman's body also had two throat cuts and her abdomen had been split open and her uterus removed. Stride and Eddowes were both murdered on the same day. They had one cut on their throats, and the only difference between these two deaths is that Stride's death had no mutilations on the abdomen while that of Eddowes had a missing kidney and uterus. Now for Kelly, her body was found having been done the same things as the rest of the victims. However, her heart had also been ripped out. (Marriot 31-63)

The way these explanations of how the murder victims looked like after Jack was done with them is so creepy. It even makes one wonder whether Jack the Ripper was human. The fact that he did murder the victim then go ahead to dig into their abdomen is another very scary picture. It depicts him to be heartless and pretty much scarier than any other person. However, these murders also helped him build his legacy. Because of these unending cases, the dilapidated state of East End came to be noticed by the outside world. They got to clear the slums two years after the incident. Even to children, he became a big name where they went around in his costumes as that person who creeps on slowly.

Whatever makes Jack the Ripper to be the worst serial killer is because, compared to other serial killers such as Zodiac, he seemed to enjoy torturing the victims. It seems as though blood made him happy. This is why he kept on digging into the victims with his knife and removing body parts after body parts. Even comparing his work with that of an almost similar serial killer, the Yorkshire Ripper, we have still been able to see how lethal Jack the Ripper was. Unlike him, the Yorkshire Ripper was just another coward who used weird materials for his victims such as a stone on a sock. (Jones 3) This does not bring out the entire image of brutality like the way Jack the Ripper has been able to show us. As for Jack the Ripper, it seems as though he had some emotional attachment to the act of killing because of the way his victims were left after he had dealt with them.

Looking at the passion and the way he did handle his victims. We cannot be able to call Jack the Ripper just a serial killer like those others, but instead, he should be called a one of a kind serial killer because of the way he was able to do what not any normal man would do. In fact, it would be wise to think that maybe he was possessed with the passion for killing these victims. It is even worse to think that he still could go on with his business as cool as a normal person after ransacking through the bodies of the victims. This is pretty much different compared to how any normal murderer would do.

Focusing on the phase of the victims and their please while Jack the Ripper was torturing them, one can be able to easily feel the pinch of the beast in him. This is because still even though all these people kept on crying for mercy from him, he ignored their calls and went ahead to butcher them mercilessly. In fact, it is hard for us to prove whether he was human because he seemed not to have the heart at all. Most of the recounts of the same always left the witnesses and the authorities wondering at the intensity of the beast in him. His acts led to a sprawl of investigations by the police. They swung into action, and over two thousand people were interviewed. Over eighty people were detained over suspicions of being Jack the Ripper. In fact, the most suspected people were butchers, surgeons, and slaughterers because of the nature of the murder victims.

Conclusion

Furthermore, it is easy to say that Jack the Ripper is the best serial killer because we can see how his actions are so different and heartless. In fact, there is a belief that maybe he used to rain his anger on the prostitutes. Therefore, looking at how Jack the Ripper was able to do his serial killings and how he was able to have a unique way of spreading his message, compared to other serial killers, we can understand the fact that his actions have brought him out to be the number one serial killer. (Beg 224-229) It is therefore undeniable that when it comes to ranking the serial killers in accordance to the lethal nature of their acts, Jack the Ripper comes at the top. He even shows this with the way he does handle his victim's body parts.
