Introduction
A sports drama film of 2005 American biographical which is directed by Thomas Carter. The movies are based on the Richmond High School basketball coach Ken Carter true story who made a significant impact on headlines in 1999 after suspending his undefeated high school basketball team because of poor academic results. The movie also portrays a clear display of leadership skills from Ken Carter in his attempts to ensure that the fate of his students in the basketball is not startled. This paper examines how leadership is displayed in the movie Coach Carter.
Leadership Within Coach Carter Movie
Leaders always have a clear vision. They are motivated with the kinds of goals they need to achieve as well as the rationale which are associated with their action. However, challenging the team to remain focused on their efforts and understand their strengths and weaknesses is the best way to overcome challenging issues in leadership.
In Coach Carter, the vision of Ken Carter as a leader was to give to his team a better future which is away from crime-related actions. He emphasizes on the fact that his first encounter with most troubled youths who usually drop out of school and eventually end up in prisons or killed is a serious menace that jeopardizes their progress (Gunawan, Kuncara & Wati, 2017). Such an individual has their visions startled and is rendered passive in all actions which they can be involved in. Due to these challenges which act as a barrier in the lives of most high school students, Ken Carter opted for implementation of change. He aimwased to ensure that all his players overcome challenges in the educational system which is designed to make them fail and lose focus. Throughout the entire movie, various types of leadership styles are used by Ken Carter to achieve his goals effectively.
For instance, Ken Carter use transformational leadership approach to make people get involved in more operations as compared to their original proposal to boost transformation and large scale innovation and change. Through inspiring his team, Coach Carter projected that each player can achieve more accolades than they could ever imagine if they are dedicated in their works. As a team Coach Carter made the team suffer and triumph together (Gunawan, Kuncara & Wati, 2017). He had a positive impact on each player with his team and occasionally encouraged them about unity and working at their full potential. Notably, Coach Carter stands out through his efforts of helping his players as well as giving them the opportunity to fasten their careers to other levels.
Impact of the Leadership Action in Coach Carter
The approach applied by Ken Carter was splendid and impressive. Carter ensured that the efforts of every team member are involved in the realization of the team's missions and vision. Similarly, it gives them the opportunity to explore their potentials to the fullest while maintaining a cohesive relationship within the group. However, more interactions with other outside personnel could have made the process more comprehensive and tangible. A collaborative effort in handling issues from both internal and external forces gives parties concerned to have significant transgression in the problems.
Conclusion
In conclusion, adverse leadership practices and approaches are needed in handling different issues. The chosen path must correlate within the visions of the leaders concerned. In Coach Carter, Ken portrays specific leadership skills in bringing the basketball team together which eventually enable them to realize the goals and be safe from crime and unplanned deaths.
