To determine the extent of the displacement the study analyzes the amount of time people spend on print media compared with the other types of media. It also looks at the audiences who prefer print media and those who opt for other kinds of media. It analyzes the cultural differences that may be contributing to the issue and how technological advances play a role. The study takes place among nine European nations. It identifies that print media still holds its place among European audiences and it also explains why the type of media remains resilient.

Its basis is the resilience model or displacement of a particular form of media. The study identifies that print media still holds its place among other forms of media and it goes further to give reasons for the resilience of this type of media.

The study identifies the rise in the sale and use of e-books and if this type of media is slowly replacing the print books. It looks at preferences of readers concerning e-books and print books while analyzing different aspects including sex, the level of education, the type of community and much more. It involves a sample of two thousand nine hundred and eighty-six participants who are a national sample representative of the United States. The study identifies that e-books have developed their place in media due to their ease of access but they, however, have not replaced print books as they remain to be the preference of many.
