Rape is a form of gender-based violence that involves engaging in sexual activities without the consent of the other individual. There are different myths associated with rape, which accelerates people to commit this crime. One such tale is that if one is HIV/AIDs positive and they have sexual relations with a virgin, the disease will be cured. (Russo&Pirlott, 2006). This belief has led to several rape cases.

Members of the LGBTQ community are most prone to gender-based violence because they have a different sexual orientation. They are believed to be inferior by the community by liking members of the same sex or by being transgender. They experience the same problem as women because they are both regarded to be inferior to men. This perception leads to both physical and emotional violence, which in the long run, affects them negatively even in their social interactions.

Gender-based violence does not discriminate against gender. However, women are at a higher risk of abuse. Societies' beliefs on gender-based violence on women are that women bring destruction upon themselves because of some of their actions like the clothes that they wear, which are inappropriate in public, this has been an excuse over the years that has seen a lot of women experiencing sexual violence. Society, therefore, requires women to be more disciplined in the type of clothes they wear, especially in public places for them to avoid being victims of sexual violence.

In different communities, boys are taught from a young age to respect women who will, later on, affect them positively in their interactions with women later on as they grow. They learn from their fathers how women are supposed to be treated, and addressed. However, in the earlier years, women were said to be inferior to men, and this act of treating women as less than men had a significant impact on how boys viewed women, and this led to them having disrespect for women.

In conclusion, gender-based violence is concerned with how a community educates its people about interactions with others. It is, therefore, advised that people be more informed for them to bring an end to the perspectives that people have, which accelerates gender-based violence. This is because in most cases if the situation of gender-based violence is not solved it may lead to long term negative effects.
