Introduction

The subject of global history that emerged several centuries ago has enormously contributed to the understanding of various events that have taken place since 1500. It has further shed light on how these events have shaped political, economic, cultural and social institutions of the 21st century. While some people hold the idea that the subject of history is little more than some boring dates and names, others see history as a science that has immensely contributed to the understanding of the current society. Others, however, have misconceived the discipline of global history as a discipline involving memorization of facts and that it has no relevance in the current century. Well, I dare assert that they are misled. History is a social science that must be approached scientifically. Understanding global history requires critical thinking and testing of hypothesis. Historians, therefore, are scientists of the past. The great writers of history - William Duiker and Jackson J Spiel Vogel clears the air on this heated argument of the relevance of history in their book "The essential world history volume 2". I concur with their ideas that world history from 1500 has shaped the 21st century significantly.

This summary of the heritage of the earth includes political, financial, social, religious, intellectual, cultural and army development incorporated into a chronologically organized synthesis to assist one to achieve recognition and familiarize oneself with the events that ensued in the world since 1500, thus shaping the world's current system. For example, the book talks about the new heaven and new earth, which was an intellectual revolution in the western countries (Duiker and Jackson 459). It is an idea that has a religious backup, and religious men have embraced it dearly.

Also, by taking a keen look, the book describes the role of women in society (Duiker and Jackson 465). Amazingly, the women's fights for their rights found its way in the 21st century. Just like women formed various civil rights groups to fight for their rights, so does women of the 21st century. They have been very vocal in different for a, fighting for affirmative action and equal opportunities with men. An indicator that global history from 1500 has significantly shaped the world. Alternatively, to say in a better word, history repeats itself.

History does not only repeat itself but also keeps changing. The events in history before 1500 were not the same as the events from 1500. It is for this reason that the world has witnessed a tremendous change in economic practices, culture and political changes. It is, therefore, clear that several factors, such as religious traditions and cultural conventions, can affect historical change.

Conclusion

Conclusively, there has been much historical change from 1500 to date. Several factors have led to this, from events like world war one and world war two to tremendous economic growth. Nonetheless, it remains clear that events in world history have shaped the world in several ways. It is also clear that history in itself cannot be assumed. The book, 'essential world history' vividly describes the events in the past whose impact have meaning today. Besides, even though history keeps changing, the human race traces its development through it.
