Introduction
As a city, New York is made up of five boroughs located at the place where the Hudson River meets with the Atlantic Ocean. This is a region that is densely populated and has a majority of commercial centers and different cultural centers that all represent different functionalities. Some of the most iconic sites showing this difference in culture and commercial diversities include the Statue of Liberty, which is a national monument showing an American Icon as well as Central Park, Times Square, and Empire State Building.
New York City is the largest city in the United States, with a population of more than 8.3 million people by the year 2020. New York City had maintained its large population for a long time since the year 1790 when the first census was done in the states. It has stayed ahead of Las Vegas, which is the second-largest city as well as Chicago. Because of its large population, New York City has people from different cultures and ethnic backgrounds, making it one of the most culturally diverse places in the United States.
A multicultural state refers to a state that has diversities coming in many forms. These diversities include ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, and class, as well as social practices. A multicultural state also has people from different backgrounds and environments that are different in terms of their approach to information and decision-making. New York City also got its cultural characteristics of trading from the Dutch Republic from the year 1624. Historically, New York came under British control in the year 1664, where it was named after Charles II of England, who granted the city to his brother.
New York City has values that are meant to accommodate individuals of different femininity and practices with the policies that are intended to benefit from diverse cultures. The cultural differences help the workers and the Citizens to operate in an environment where there would be little misunderstandings despite coming from different cultures.
Various ethnic groups, such as African Americans, Asians, Indian Americans, Caucasians, among others, are in the city with different cultural practices. These people speak differently and have various celebrations, depending on their cultural backgrounds. It is this reason, therefore, that New York has to accommodate people's rights with policies that promote unity and cohesion.
Cultural differences come in many forms. Apart from giving people from different cultures, the opportunity to pursue different businesses and practices, religion, and education plays a crucial role in multiculturalism. Every religion, including Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, and others are represented in the city of New York. Sexual orientation and gender identity have formed a key part of modern cities, and New York identifies LGBT communities that are well represented during the celebrations. The annual New York City pride march, which is also known as the gay parade, is a celebration that usually starts from the Southside of 5th Avenue and ends in Greenwood Village in Manhattan.
Multi culture also involves differences in wealth and income disparities. As a larger City there are individuals of high-income does that belong to low income. Homeless people with no income have to be accommodated together with the extremely rich individuals as part of the city.
Hence, as what the largest city in the United States, New York has maintained its status of accommodating every individual from different culture through accurately representing them in their cultural practices and having cultural policies that ensure that everyone is respected and represented.
