Introduction
It happens to many people that they find themselves singing while in the shower. It occurs most times without having the intention to do so. The voice while in the shower sounds better than we think, therefore encourages a person to continue enjoying their singing. Music Mic (2018) says that the view of a person in the shower is made to bounce by the tiles that result in making the music sound better. The shape of the shower also contributes to making the sound waves to have a longer distance of travel. The voice thus sounds more profound and richer than the typical pitchy sound. It has been found that singing in the shower can boost self-esteem. Singing in the shower helps to increase the emotional and psychological state in a human being (Moyer, 2015). This paper seeks to discuss the reasons why Singing in the shower can boost self- confidence.
According to Massan, (2019), singing in the shower has excellent benefits to human beings and their health too. When a person sings, they feel happy and also feel good on hearing that they sound good as they sing too. It, therefore, contributes to providing a boost in the esteem of a person. This is as a result of chemical oxytocin which is released that creates an enhancement of trust and bonding feelings making a person have a better social life. Secondly, she says that singing in the shower helps an individual to be able to overcome stress. This is because one can exercise their lungs as they sing and therefore, can manage to inhale oxygen and also helps in taking deep breaths. It is the reason why people are advised to take deep breathes while nervous about being able to calm down. If a person often sings in the shower, they tend to blow all the stress and anxiety away. It also aids in boosting a person's memory because a person endeavors to remember the lyrics of the song. Massan says that Singing also plays a significant role in lowering blood pressure by release of cortisol hormone. The hormone plays a part in raising blood pressure and sugar that help to maintain stable levels of blood sugars.
For other people like My Shower Speakers, (2019) just like Massan, they contend that singing in the shower is healthy for the immune system. The reason is that as a person sings, an antibody is produced the researchers were able to discover this because an analysis on a blood sample was conducted before and after a rehearsal of a choir, the levels of immunoglobulin were higher after the rehearsal. They also say that singing in the shower helps to relieve back pain because as a person sings, they stretch the back and then relax the shoulders. Also, the larynx vibrates the whole body, including the spine aiding in some massage. They also say that some researchers found that singing in the shower helps to keep a healthy heart through more oxygenation of the blood. It helps to give the skin a natural glow because once a person is exercising their face trying to come up with the voice. It boosts the glow through facial gymnastics that help the face, not to sag and maintaining skin elasticity. The same issue of self-confidence has also been mentioned by My Shower Speakers with reasons similar to those of Massan, therefore, putting more emphasis on the general belief which through the two types of research seems to be true.
According to The Singer's Corner, (2018), singing in the shower boosts mental health through the release of oxytocin and endorphins in the brain that helps to cause pleasure and the body to relax. With the hot water while in the shower, it is good therapy for the body. Music is also seen to create emotional connections. This then helps to cause a relaxing mood while in the shower, combined with a favorite song. As a person sings in the shower, they practice becoming better singers. The singing environment made by the shower helps to boost the confidence of a person. It, therefore, encourages them to become better singers. Music helps to strengthen the muscles; it is a technique that is performed by professional singers when they sing from the diaphragm. This helps to strengthen the muscles of the back and lower abdomen. Also, if a person is suffering from pain, hormone dopamine, and oxytocin are released. The pain is reduced because happy hormones that are produced by the brain. Singing is a form of entertainment, although, to some, it may be irritating (Steth news, 2015).
According to Hom, (2018), singing in the shower has advantages like a person has their privacy. Singing in the shower is not like singing in front of many other people. Instead, a person has their small place that can be termed as a "studio" that helps to boost their confidence by making their voice to sound perfectly lovely. It is when a person realizes this that they can have a boost in their confidence, therefore, encouraged to sing more. The more they practice, the more they get better at Singing, and the more they improve their health. Singing in the shower is only related to positive results. Although some say that singing in the shower makes a person to concentrate less on what the aim is to do in the bathroom. The benefits outweigh the negative comments.
Whether it is a hobby or a professional plan to sing professionally, Singing helps to improve mental and physical health. They help to provide relaxation by helping in working the muscles. Also through Singing in the shower a person's confidence is boosted by the acoustics provided by the environment in the shower makes a person feel good about themselves through their voice, therefore, boosting the confidence and esteem of a person.
