At this instance, Balboa perceives Creed to be a better boxer than him.

Furthermore, self-concept is important because it aids in influencing individual's behavior, cognitive as well as emotion outcomes like happiness, self-esteem, and anxiety among others. In film production, the theory of self-concept enables film directors to guide characters on how to portray their personalities in the plot of movies. Subsequently, this enables the films' audience to understand the behaviors of various characters featured in the films.

Self-concept is a theme that was largely portrayed in the film Rocky through some of the top characters depicted in the plot. For instance, Balboa had a strong belief that he could be very successful in the field of professional boxing. Furthermore, it is also plausible that his strong self-concept is what made him have the courage of accepting the challenge of Creed, who was an already established boxing professional. Just like Balboa, Creed strongly believed in himself that he could not be defeated, having won numerous other matches in his past.

One instance of conflict that was evidenced in the film was manifested through the interactions of Balboa and Paulie. In this instance in the film, Paulie becomes jealous of Balboa's success and openly disapproves Balboa's relationship with Adrian - Paulie's sister. Nevertheless, the conflict between Balboa and Paulie was resolved through good communication. In this case, Balboa decided to advertise Paulie's meatpacking business on the ring before the start of the boxing match. As a result, this agreement between Balboa and Paulie helped to end the conflict between the two characters.

Nevertheless, conflict can also be manifested physically through the actions perpetrated by different characters in the plots of films. For instance, in the film Rocky, it is evident that there is a conflict that exists between Balboa and Creed. In this case, Creed underestimates Balboa during the first round and to his surprise, he suffers a knockout. As a result, Creed becomes serious with Balboa as a serious contender and it is clear during the 15 rounds of the match that he engages in a fierce physical conflict with Balboa.
