Phase 1: Inspiration

My workplace can be considered ideal because it has the basic furniture and enough space. I have a huge table-top of about 80 square-feet long, 4.5 feet high and 15 feet wide. It is wide to accommodate a computer and keyboard on one end, book and file shelves on the other side with enough space to spread out books and other research materials when doing research. I also prefer another clean space enough for stretching and spreading out without disturbing working materials. The extra space also allows working while standing or seated. As well, the space can accommodate other people who may come around. As much as I prefer working alone for concentration purposes, it is also important to work with others for collaboration purposes.

What is more, the working space has lots of natural lighting emanating from wide glass windows. The room is well-vanished with bright and warm ceiling lights and lamps (Blanc). In addition, the outside view is spectacular with a green mountainous view. What is more, the ceilings are tall perhaps to accommodate big ideas and creative thinking. On the other side, book and file shelves are well arranged leaving extra spaces for more material storage. Although my seat is not adjustable, it is comfortable to sit for long hours.

On the other hand, there are areas that are not up to the expected standards. First, the temperature of the room is not automated. In cold seasons, the lights must be on throughout to have an extra source of heat. As well, during hot seasons the lights are off to reduce the room temperatures even when there is not enough natural light. There is also a need to have an ergonomic chair good for work ethic ("10 components of an ideal workspace"). The brain foods are also not available while in the working space.

Phase 2: Ideation

In light of reflective design thinking, the situation at hand is a design challenge that can be transformed into a prototype ("How to Successfully Apply the Inspiration in Design Thinking"). To achieve comfortable temperatures, I suggest an installation of automated room temperature equipment which will promptly respond to the temperature changes. As well, there should be an electric heater or coil to warm me up on cold days and a van to cool me down in hot days. I should hire a worker responsible for lighting up charcoal to warm me up on cold days and also supply cold drinks during sunny days. As well, I can have a wardrobe within the workspace to keep heavy jackets and even blankets to cover myself up during winter and have light clothing to wear during summer. There can also be regulations to prohibit working during extreme weather conditions such as hot summer and wet winters. During this time, people should be away from workstations until the weather conditions improve.

In cold times, I can be supplied with hot drinks continually while at the workspace and cold drinks during hot periods. In addition, arrangements can be made to receive allowances for working in an environment that is somewhat uncomfortable due to frequent room temperature fluctuations. It would be an incentive to keep on working in such environment. Equally, the working place can have a full-fragged residential room to live in during extreme weather conditions. It will enable indoor working in times of cold or hot seasons.
