Introduction
Leadership is a virtue given by God to a few individuals in the world to take control of others so that world activities can run smoothly. Even in the different states around the globe, we elect leaders who guide us to the citizens. In 1978 James MacGregor came up with the theory of transformational leadership in which he explained it as an approach that assists the leaders to inspire, motivate as well as encourage employees to transform plus bring about a change hence enabling the success of a company or even institution. Therefore, the theory mainly talks about the different ways of guiding an organization hence assisting in changing it, whereby people's attention, as well as the talents of the employees, can be properly utilized for their benefit. This theory directs employees of the organization, enhancing them with enough confidence as well as encouragement to adapt to the change. With the understanding of the approach, a transformational leader is a leader who directs his employees and motivates them so that they can achieve the best out of themselves. With the ability to provide the best guidance, this leader pays attention to all the employees in the organization not looking at which position you hold hence preparing them for any transformation that might pop up and also empowering them.
When using this theory as a leader, one should consider its three major pillars' that enables it function well. They include, passing on inspirations as well as employee's vision, people's attention plus contributing an intelligent challenge. With the three pillars the leaders encourage the employees not to lean only on external factors like payment as well as favorable working conditions but to focus also on appreciation as well as responsibility practices. Therefore, the leader should be able to concentrate on the standards, needs, capacities and values of the organization and be able to enforce them positively.
Characteristics of Transformational Leadership
With the approach elaborating on how James MacGregor requires the organizational leaders to guide his employees, he came up with different characteristics that he required these leaders to have.
- The leaders should always have a positive mindset whereby they positively encourage their employees.
- Always lead by example so that others in the organization can follow their footsteps.
- A transformational leader should adopt an ethical working environment with specific values, standards as well as priorities. Every employee will understand his or her purpose in the organization.
- The leader should always emphasize authenticity, open communication plus cooperation between every individual in the organization.

In conclusion after understanding the transformational leadership approach, the leaders can use democratic discussions when handling difficult issues in an organization. With this method of dealing with the tough organizational situations, the leader should always engage the employees to find what is affecting them as well as the organization and finally ask them on the alternative solutions that would help solve the difficult issues so that the organization can prosper. After properly discussing with them the appropriate solutions to curb the difficult situation, the transformational leader with the experience and knowledge he or she has on the field he should be able to choose the best out of the alternative proposed by the members of the organization. Through the consultation, the leader ensures that he creates a broader view is developed for approaching the situation at hand. Hence by engaging everyone in the organization in decision making will ensure acceptance of every alternative proposed.
