Introduction
Another concept that helps in raising the effectiveness of this discourse is intertextuality. The details highlighted in the speech made are relevant to the prevailing situation in the world. There are global protests on the Black Lives Matter and the details highlighted in this discourse are touching on the various inequalities and injustices experienced by different people in the past and the need to end any future killings triggered by racism. Some of the persons highlighted in this speech include Dr. King, Cesar Chavez, and Malcolm X, and they all played a significant role in their respective capacities to alleviate the human race from different problems that they were encountering at the time (Mullet, 2018). The former president is quick to highlight the measures that he took when in office towards ending the racial killings. He claims that there was a creation of a team that was intended to handle issues on the 21st century policing, and this was in the wake of Michael Brown’s murder.
Discourse Evaluation
The discourse responds to the ideologies and contemporary institutions by highlighting what needs to be done in the wake of extra-judicial killings on the Black American. The control, power, social change, injustice, emancipation, and inequalities are the ideologies that the discourse has managed to highlight in the analysis process. The discourse handles the issue of inequality with the speech stating that many people have suffered due to racism leading to death, with George’s family being the latest group to experience the pain first-hand. The discourse highlights how inequality is prevalent in other sectors, such as the health system with communities of color failing to get the right form of treatment to protect them from the current pandemic that has engulfed the world. Power is being utilized in the wrong way with the persons in authority to undermine the people of color, for they want to control their activities and operations. The discourse calls for the need to ensure that there is social change that will help in creating an environment that people from all walks of life can interact, exchange ideas, and hold each other with respect (Larsen, 2018). Psychological emancipation is critical for it will help the Black American communities to know that they have the ability to deliver themselves from the oppressions that are directed towards them. They have the power to make sure that cases of injustices and inequalities are prevented from happening, for these are the activities that will bring an end to the extra-judicial killings of the Black Americans.
Conclusion
In conclusion, president Obama speech on extra-judicial killing of the Black Americans is discourse and I tend to agree with the assertions raised in the text. It is critical to ensure that the right measures are undertaken that will help in ensuring that everyone is treated with dignity. For a long time, people of color have been treated in the wrong way through unnecessary killings and racial profiling. One of the recent events that sparked protects around the world is the killing of George Floyd. The effectiveness of this discourse is highlighted through the concepts stated in the analysis process. The utilization lexical grammar and intertextuality are the theories that are showing the effectiveness of the discourse. The former president manages to use a clear flow of grammar making it easier for the listeners and readers to have a better understanding of the message he is passing across. Additionally, there exists various issues that he keeps repeating to ensure that the listeners manages to get a deeper understanding of the importance of respecting the human life.
