Introduction

Changing the values of R and C in the RC circuit has a considerable effect on the nature of smoothing. However, the influence depends on the approach to adjustment of the values. For instance, lowering the value of R leads to a subsequent decrease in the time, which further reduces the time of discharge. Consequently, this leads to a decrease in smoothing. This based on the idea that having a relatively low resistance reduces the RC product as well as the time constant (Gomez-Aguilar, Atangana & Morales-Delgado, 2017). On this note, the ripple will occur and achieve much greater levels. The subsequent decrease in the smoothing is further enhanced by the parallel arrangement between the capacitor and the resistor.

In the RC circuits, there is always more than one resistor values which ensure the occurrence of charging and discharging of the current from the capacitor. This also helps in understanding the concept behind the change in the smoothing recorded by the circuit. Besides, the resistor and the capacitor are in a parallel arrangement, which ensures that the capacitor tends to charge more slowly lowering the voltage while increasing the ripple. This explains why any change alters the nature of the smoothing.

Inductor-Resistor Series Arrangement and the Effect on the Smooth Output

Replacing a capacitor with an inductor implies a positive change in the nature of smoothing. This is because an inductor operates in a very different manner relative to that of the capacitors. Unlike the capacitors, which influence the flow of current, an inductor restricts the nature of current to a specific form (Gomez-Aguilar, Atangana & Morales-Delgado, 2017). This implies there are minimal effects on the flow, which further implies that the smoothing is not much influenced. On the same note, it is important to note that the rapid variations in the voltage could be controlled by the capacitor. This enhances a more smooth overall output. The input filter further uses an inductor connected in series with the resistor. By opposing the changes in the flow of current, the inductor provides a smoother output for the resistor load.

Difference between the Measured Values and the Theory Values

The difference between the measured and theoretical values could have occurred due to experimental errors. The errors must have occurred due to some mistakes, which went unnoticed. For instance, the measurement of the capacitance and the resistance could be of considerable errors. Xia and Chen (2017) felt that the influence of changing their values could not reflect the known theoretical values. Besides, the adjustment of the values could be inconsistent making the nature of the smoothing output slightly different from what the theory hold. Moreover, the timing could have been associated with some mistakes making the measurements not to reflect the expected experimental results. As a result, ambiguity occurs which further leads to results, which does not reflect the theoretical values.

Reducing the Errors

The errors can be avoided by implementing considerably accuracy measures. For instance, the experiment should be done in a consistent manner; that is, the values should be adjusted uniformly to ensure that the results are also consistent. Xia and Chen (2017) added that the values of the capacitance and the resistance should be confirmed to be accurate before further experimental steps are accomplished. In the end, the experiment will have incorporated some accuracy level and the associated results may not deviate much from the theoretical values.
