Introduction
In the contemporary world, the habits of excessive drug use or drug abuse and reckless sex have become very rampant. Many millions of people, both the young and the old, have intruded into these habits of drug abuse and engaging in reckless sex, which, in most cases, end up messing their lives. When living with these wicked people, many children at great risk of being introduced into the habits of reckless drug abuse and engaging in reckless sex. Therefore, it is crucial for the people who take part in the raising of children to always advise and guide them accordingly for them not to be introduced into those wicked habits by their older friends. The parents and the teachers are some of the main parties who play a critical role in the raising of children and modifying their behaviors (Dacey, Mack, and Fiore). That being said, a question arises of whether young children studying in elementary schools should be given sex or drug education considering their young age and the sensitivity of these contemporary issues. In this paper, this question will be explored by considering the possible benefits and drawbacks that can arise by educating elementary schools' children about sexual life and drug abuse, which will help in giving a stand of whether these children should be taught about these contemporary issues or not.
Firstly, considering the benefits, there are many benefits that can result from educating elementary schools' children about drug abuse and sexual life. Some of these benefits include helping the children to avoid the many health and other social problems that arise from engaging in reckless sex and drug abuse, helping the children to live good and calm lives where they will grow to be responsible people, helping to reduce the cases of unwanted pregnancies and encourage healthy relationships, among many other benefits. All these benefits work for the advantage of these young children, their parents, their schools (teachers), their communities, and their entire country.
To start with helping young children to avoid the many health and other social problems associated with drug abuse and engaging in reckless sex, drug and sex education has been found to be very crucial in helping young children avoid these problems (Mohan 88-92). Drug abusers and people who engage in sex recklessly end up getting many diseases, different other health complications, and other social problems where they find it quite hard to interact with the other people due to the kind of lives they live (Salas-Wright, Vaughn, and Gonzalez). When young children in elementary schools are taught about these negative consequences that are associated with drug abuse and reckless sex, they avoid intruding into these wicked behaviors and end up avoiding facing these consequences of health problems and many social problems.
Drug and sexual education in elementary schools can also help these children live good, calm, and peaceful lives where they will grow to be responsible people (Alemansour 467-470). In most cases, people who engage in drug abuse and reckless sex live very unpleasant lives where they keep on quarreling with the other people in their societies. In some cases, these wicked people, some of whom are seen as rejects in their societies, may even end up being seriously hurt or killed either intentionally or unintentionally, by the other people who they offend when drunk or when engaging in different criminalities being controlled by the drugs they abused (Trejo and Ley 9-52). When children in elementary schools are given drug and sex education, they will be encouraged to avoid abusing drugs and engaging in reckless sex, which can land them to these kinds of troubles. By avoiding the life of abusing drugs and engaging in reckless sex, these children will live good, calm, and peaceful lives where they will not be quarreling with the other members of their society. They will live and grow in a peaceful and safe environment where they will end up being responsible people in their lives (Naezer, Rommes, and Jansen 712-728).
Drug and sex education in elementary schools can also help to reduce the cases of unwanted pregnancies and promote healthy relationships (Drwal et al. 46-49). There are many people who start abusing drugs and engaging in reckless and unprotected sex at their young ages. Most of these people get unwanted pregnancies in their young age, where they either end up having abortions or getting babies they did not plan to get. In the long run, most of these people do not get healthy relationships and do not marry or get married. By having drug and sex education in elementary schools, young children will be discouraged from abusing drugs and engaging in reckless sex. This means the cases of unwanted pregnancies in schools will be reduced significantly. Also, these children will be taught how they can start and maintain healthy relationships, which will be beneficial to both parties and may even end up leading to marriage (Long).
The benefits discussed above are just a few of the many benefits associated with drug and sex education in elementary schools. Despite having many benefits, sex and drug education in elementary schools has some drawbacks. Some of the main drawbacks include exposing these young children to some things that they should know at their age as it risks their lives, making these children feel more mature and engage in some activities that they should not be doing, among other drawbacks. Starting with exposing these children, when these children are educated about drugs and sexual life, these children get exposed to some information that they should not know at their tender ages as it can affect their lives negatively (Lester et al. 181-194). These children may run about different types of drugs that they did not know or different types or styles of sex that they did not know, and some of them may be tempted to try these drugs or sex.
Regarding making these children feel more mature, when these young children are taught about drugs and sex, some of them may feel that they are now mature enough and can now start engaging in sex and taking drugs like the other older or mature people that they live with. They take it that their teachers are trying to limit their pleasure by discouraging them from taking drugs or have sex, which they see their parents and other older people they live with having. They get the curiosity to know what sex and drugs make people feel that their teachers are discouraging them from having them. The sex and drug education that was meant to discourage these young children from engaging in reckless sex and abusing drugs turns to be a motivating factor that makes some children start abusing some drugs and engaging in sex secretly (Rahmani, Merghati-Khoei, and Fallahi).
Conclusion
From the entire discussion, it can generally be said that sex and drug education in elementary schools has many benefits when compared to its drawbacks. It discourages many children from engaging in reckless sex and abusing drugs, although it also makes a few of them start abusing drugs and engaging in sex. However, it is good to mention that even if these children are not taught about sex and drugs and their consequences in their elementary schools, they will still learn about them in their societies, which have many drug abusers and people who engage in reckless sex and start having them. Therefore, it is highly recommended that drug and sex education should always be taught in elementary schools, where it will help many children in avoiding abusing drugs and engaging in reckless sex.
