Introduction
Emily Dickinson, in her poem "Because I could not stop for death," reveals to the audience that each religion has a solution to what they expect after dying. Dickinson reveals the contradiction that in reality, nobody can tell precisely when death shall strike since the dead cannot communicate with the living (Dickinson, n.d.). The writer gives a sanguine outlook in the death's eyes but rejects the initial optimism. The poem suggests that no preparation amount shall transcend the reality of death and deter human intellect from distracting people's inability to understand death.
In the poem "Faith is a fine invention," Emily gives her view on religion. In the poem, the word "microscope" and "see" means science and believing in God, respectively (Dickinson, n.d.). The poem teaches that people should create a balance between science and religion.
Dickinson's poem "Success is counted sweetest," she narrates that a person who does not succeed or suffer defeat is the only person who has the understanding of success. In other words, only deprivation can result in a greater understanding of what people do not have and appreciation of what they have(Dickinson, n.d.). For that reason, she advocates for equality between genders.
In the poem "If I can stop one heart from breaking," Emily meant that she would not live in the past. In essence, she tries to tell the readers to be a focus in life because dwelling in the past does not make sense in the current life (Dickinson, 2014). Such that a person who dwells in the past is doomed since nothing good shall come out of the past.
The "I'm nobody. Who are you?" Dickinson shares with the readers her thought concerning personality and individual characteristics (Dickinson, n.d.). In this poem, she wins the case of being an introvert. Dickinson shared with her audience about her thoughts about fake glamour and affected fame that is highly cherished by people.
In the poem "After great pain a formal feeling comes," Dickinson elaborates on the aspect of pain. She expounds on the personal crisis that arose about an outbreak of severe anxiety and love affair. For that reason, a young man from Amherst, Massachusetts, continues to live in increased loneliness.
Dickinson's poem "How far is it to heaven" gives a proper understanding and different concept fuelled by Christian doctrine on the idea of reaching heaven. The poem discloses the antagonist that exists among God Church. She covers the idea of baptism that is conducted quite differently.
In the poem "There is no frigate like a book," Dickinson belabors on the point that reading is a gift given to everyone. In the poem, the reader finds interest in her prowess of writing poetry. Such that reading allows readers to go on a journey that they wish to embark on time. Arguably, Dickinson asserts that every reader should have some imagination while reading which can make them travel to a distant land. In the poem, Dickinson argues when people travel in a ship, their vision is ignited as they contemplate on the smells, sounds, and sights they find in the ship. In such instances, people tend to go on an imaginary ship by taking a journey in their minds. In the same context, those kinds of imagination allow people to exercise the gift of reading by engaging their imagination. In essence, Dickinson tries to educate readers that literature and traveling can prove that anything is possible.
