Introduction

Currently am studying agricultural at UC Davis, an institute I had to choose after my parents forced me to pursue agricultural so that in future I take over the family business as the family owned a farm in China. I had no interest in the agricultural course. Instead, I wanted to learn either Computer or Electronic Engineering as I had a good performance that could enroll me to Engineering. However, I want to leave my UCD institute as it is not performing well in engineering that I am interested in pursuing. According to me, I consider the agricultural discipline to be hard hence I might not perform well, and also I do not have an interest in pursuing it. Hence I want to change to my interested major which is an engineering course in UW. My parents have already agreed with my decision to transfer to another institute and change my discipline, and if I manage to change my career path and the institute, then it will positively impact my education progress and my life in general because I will be doing what I love most and perform it perfectly. Thus, it will enable me to achieve my career dreams of being an engineer.

My Major and Career Goals

Moreover, I intend to study Engineering specifically Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering. Since I was a child, I developed this interest as I used to disassemble different electronic devices when I was a primary school student. I dissembled tiny mp3 and desktop computer to observe the contents inside it and know how it works. Mostly, due to my curiosity, my parents always want to beat me many times when I split their devices apart. However, after some years later, I can manage to build a desktop computer and carry out some scientific projects on my own. Hence, I used a micro-computer known as Raspberry Pi and a Motorola phone to build a fake base station which is a model of the device used by telecom operator to transfer messages. When I was doing this project, the Chinese government had not taken any measure to ban this, and my intention of doing it was not to carry out any illegal stuff. Finally, I used to send messages to my mother to test the working of the system.

Concerning the major, I intend to pursue am prepared to enter at this time, and I hope that I will perform exceptionally well then the agricultural discipline. We have already discussed the transfer of the institute and the change of my career with my parents who were at first against and they have agreed to allow me to pursue my interested major discipline of engineering in the University of Washington. The passion I had at my young age about computer devices and the successful project called Osmocom which is a model of device used by telecom, that I managed to build it myself gives me more energy and admiration to do either Computer or Electronic Engineering.

At the University of Washington, being a strong college in an Engineering discipline, I will be able to learn and achieve my academic goals efficiently. The university will assist me on research projects as it invests 153 million dollars in external research and engineering innovation which is offered to 8134 students enrolled to that institution.

In the case of failure to be admitted to my choice-major on Engineering, then the second choice-major will be physics. It relates to my area of interest, as physics will offer a chance of dealing with various electronic devices. The subject will help me progress with what I started in my primary school and make a significant change in both science and technology.

Cultural Understanding

Also, the traditional culture of Chinese has made tremendous contributions in my life. The culture has taught me to be in line with the instructions of my parents and do the best they tell me to do, and that is why I had to take my current major agricultural at UCD of which am not interested at all but due to my parents' interest. Most Chinese parents want their children to take profitable disciplines such as Business, Economic or Computer Science, of which on my part I consider those subjects to only relate to money. The subjects do not transform the world to its best, but the individuals are pursuing them are living for their benefits.

The Chinese government always teaches its citizens that technology and science are the primary productive force. Thus, the country is well-known for making knockoff products. Hence, in my opinion, I want to contribute a lot to society by making innovations through the use of technology and science by studying a Computer or Electronic Engineering or physics. Through these, I will be able to bring change to the society if successfully transfer to an institute which is strong in my intended major.

More so, there are educational challenges I have experienced in my education. Being the first cohort in my family to join college is a challenge, as the family members want me to take a discipline that relates to their business so that I can manage it, of which am against such disciplines, and it goes against my interesting choice.

From my curiosity on electronics while in primary school, I can sincerely say it motivated me to develop the current interest in studying Engineering or physics. They added value to my personal goals of bringing a change to the society either technologically or scientifically through innovations. At this time, I do have a compelling personal and academic need to attend Washington-Seattle University as am ready to pursue my Engineering discipline, and my parents have promised to support me when I transfer. Also, the university is highly competitive, well performing and is credited to offer the Subject.
