Introduction
Growing up in poverty -stricken background is so challenging for children especially for girls. Della is girl who grew up in poor family and she faced a lot of challenges in her life. This analysis is a memory of Della, who grew up in an environment with obstacles and her introduction to feminism, social life and religion.
In Brenda Della Casa's "What It Feels Like to on Welfare." she talks about her experiences as a young girl with a lot of financial incapabilities, her family was poor and struggled a lot to sustain themselves, having to live on the little they had, welfare food and support from those who pitied her. The fact that there are people who tend to judge the less fortunate people as being lazy and causing heavy burdens on others makes Della Casa so uncomfortable. I strongly feel the same way she thinks about those born under challenging circumstances. It is not anyone's wishing to be in whatever inconvenient situation they are in neither is it the fault of the young ones is in such a situation. Everyone cannot be on the same level of life equal to in a company there's always the boss and subjects who hold different positions.
Karen McCarthy defines fundamentalisms as the religion of the anxious people and the confused, and overpowered by the world. In her essay "Fundamentalism and the Control of Women," Karen, is against gender discrimination, especially on the side of women. In the 1970s, a new type of religion political organization emerged. It was known as the "Pro-life movement." McCarthy feels that those against abortion are pretenders since they are indifferent to children outside the womb.
Many women find solace in religion because it offers them a sense of comfort, acceptance, and encouragement. Therefore faith still stands as an essential personal and political force in women's lives. The Southern Baptist controversy explains the experiences of many women in religious traditions. In the 1980s and early 1990s, the Southern Baptist was the largest Protestant denomination hence was involved in a controversial issue between fundamentalist and moderate leaders (Donna &Goodeve, 2018). In the year 2018, however, the #MeToo movement came at last to Southern Baptist with the firing of a seminary president who had been an architect of the fundamentalist takeover.
In the issue of women and gender, a lot of social aspects are involved from religion to state, law, and policy. The country plays an essential role in both teaching and reinforcing social values. The critical factor of this chapter is the interaction between the state and gender relations in society. The state conceptualizes individuals as women and men and creates policies and practices that shape, privilege, and discriminate based on these gender categories. Despite many problems and challenges in the political systems, the state has also been a tool for addressing historical forms of social, political, and economic inequalities.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Sarah Ahmed's "Living a Feminist Life," she tries to understand what Feminism is and what a feminist does and thinks of in their daily lives. She says that being a feminist, we begin to describe our world, identify what happens to us also happens to others, and also notice pattern and regularities. In conclusion, feminism is being able to defend women's rights and giving them opportunities for self-improvement.
