It is human nature for people to make general opinions on how others write or speak. People are used to judging the personality, origin, race, or age of others, depending on how they talk or write. For instance, people who are not native English speakers but speak English privately and professionally are likely to judge people who write using words such as you are instead of you're. Also, it is easy to judge the nature of a conversation or writing, depending on the language or tone used while talking. For example, individuals can judge whether a particular conversation, speech, or writing was made in a business meeting, in a bar, or among peers. For individuals whose native language is English, how they write or speak can easily reveal their level of education, and that of their parents as well as the region they grew up from (Neuliep 17). Moreover, it is easy to tell the appropriate age of individuals, their personality, as well as their race depending on how they write or speak. Also, people judge others whether they qualify for a specific job depending on how they speak or write. For instance, people who are able to communicate in writing and speech effectively are deemed to be fit for a job. Also, it is easy for a Northerner in the sates to have a stereotype for Southerners since some of them have drawled speech and can easily be labeled as racists (Neuliep 23). Also, immigrants who learn English as their second language can find it a puzzle despite being educated and thus can be wrongly judged on how they write or speak, especially when making formal job applications.

People can judge people where they come from, depending on how they speak. For instance, one can identify someone who is a Native American, Black American, Asian, and African or from the United Kingdom since they all speak and write differently. For instance, it is easy to judge someone that comes from Pakistan, India, and Sri Lanka since they use a different way of spacing around punctuation and therefore easy to judge them. There are those who have a specific accent while speaking, and, thus, one can easily judge where they come from. Also, people judge the age of others, depending on how they speak or write (Neuliep 21). For instance, when old people speak, they usually use stories or proverbs to pass their points as opposed to young individuals who only mostly use a plain language.

Judgment, or worse, discrimination is more likely to happen depending on an individual's linguistic ability. For instance, one may be wrongly judged in college, workplace, or at a social event depending on how they write or speak. However, People should prevent discrimination depending on an individual's mastery of a language, especially in situations where people use English as their second language. When someone is chatting or conversing with poor grammar, they are judged to be fools. Also, people judge people who poorly communicate either in speech or writing as unwilling to invest in efficient communications and conversations. People who are able to communicate either in writing or speech efficiently are considered to be knowledgeable or wise. However, that may not be true since there are individuals who are unable to express themselves effectively but are knowledgeable and vice versa.
