Poster presentations are commonly used to clearly and effectively communicate the results of one's research in the biophysical sciences such as nursing and medicine. Posters allow an audience to have a snap shot of the research findings and know what the research is focusing on (Bavdekar, Vyas & Anand, 2017). Presenting research findings in such a format stimulates interaction and discussion, which avail feedback that can be helpful when writing the research paper for journal submission. When designing one's poster, it s essential to provide enough background on both the topic and the techniques to convey the purpose, findings, and implications of the research to the anticipated range of readers (Gundogan, Koshy, Kurar, & Whitehurst, 2016).
The process of preparing a poster presentation involves various steps. The first stage is to choose the content to include in the poster. Various aspects such as the purpose of the poster, the type of audience, and guidelines governing the content influence the nature and amount of material displayed (Persky, 2016). After deciding on the content, the next step is to consider the way the information should be displayed. In particular, the overall structure of the poster should be clear and logical to ensure the viewer's eyes follow the flow of information in the display naturally. The third step is to prepare the final poster once one has a good idea of where things should be placed. In this stage, the researcher chooses how to present the text by considering the font type and size, line spacing, alignment, and case. Additionally, the researcher may decide to incorporate a color palette. Notably, color can add an extra dimension to the poster design, making it more attractive and giving one another technique of highlighting particular elements of the research information (Sousa & Clark, 2019). Similarly, displaying information through illustrations, diagrams, charts, tables, or photographs can be a powerful way to dray the audience's attention to the poster.
Conclusion
To conclude, the most important thing to remember while preparing a poster presentation is to catch the readers' attention through an eye-catching and descriptive title, to make the poster visually pleasing, to create a logical organizational flow of information, and to keep the content concise.
