Introduction

From the time I started realizing the environment around me, I developed a sense of being in control. I was always at the surge of happiness whenever I was told to lead on any occasion. When I joined preschool, my teacher identified me on the first day and had a comment to my parents that I had the qualities of a leader. I was appointed and given the mandate to rule my fellow schoolmates. This was the best time of life since I had what I loved doing most. On the graduation ceremony to advance to elementary school, I was awarded as the best leader. I was given a trophy. This significantly impacted my life, and nobody could stop my dream of being a leader in future. Fortunately, almost in every place, I have been, am always considered to rule. Including in church where I was a youth chairman, in school, I was ahead of a student, and now in university, I am a welfare leader.

I cannot forget the impact of preschool teachers in my life. They laid a foundation which is unshakable up to the moment in my life of leadership. With their concern, care and advice, they shaped and hardened me as a leader. With the first team I lead while in kindergarten, their cooperation and teamwork motivated me not to quit leadership. When I was elected to lead my fellow schoolmates in kindergarten, I draw the vision of giving the best as a leader. I had an ambition of leading disciplined, hardworking and successful individuals. I had the real passion in my work, and no one could drive me on my work or even remind me to play a specific role as a leader. This gave me strength and eagerness to continue leading. Earnestly, having the vision, ambition and passion in preschool acted like the real ingredients that made me yearn for more positions as a leader in my life.

However, back at home, my father and mother never possessed any leadership title in society. People used to mock as for not being good leaders. Apart from my mother and father, in our lineage, there have never emerged leaders who have ruled society. I hated how people talked wrong about our family. This made me grow a hunger for leadership. Since then, my mission has never deviated from being a leader. I have always applied for leadership positions regardless of the reward. I can lead even without compensation. I know, if you look for an award in leadership, you may end up not delivering the best. I always target to inspire the people I lead.

As a leader or a person who possesses leadership qualities, vision is a core motive towards your success (Antonaskis, 2017). As a welfare leader currently, I have a mission of uniting the students of the university. Having unity among students will result in good being. Unity results in teamwork, which is essential also in an institution. Not leaving the instructors behind, they also need to have a good relationship with the students and vice versa. On the side of demonstrations in the university, as a welfare leader, I have a significant impact of mitigating its practice. To combat this, inclusivity is a substantial aspect of my mission of reducing demonstrations in the university. Having students included in decision making will at a higher percentage reduce demonstrations in the school.

Also, spearhead the exemplary conduct of university students by focusing on social responsibility. This will encourage ethical behaviours among students and lecturers. Innovation, on the other hand, is one of my visions as a leader. As students' welfare leader, I should propel the changes done in the intuition through a variety of ways. One of the ways to encourage innovation is by holding conferences and meetings. This will lay the basis for the innovative students to bring on board suggestions on the way forward. Rewards are also essential to act as a motivating factor to creative students to continue coming up with new ideas which are beneficial to the institution and community as a whole.

Leadership is one of the challenging roles that one can play. It requires scrupulousness to be a leader. Inspiring people to a specific action to obtain commendable results is not an easy task. It takes a special kind of personality for one to be persistent and patient while in the leadership role (Antonaskis, 2017). Being a leader may make one to encounter a lot of frustrations and achievements. It is not easy to find the entire group one is leading to be straightforward. Some of the individuals in the team may want to frustrate a leader, or some may find your task of less importance on their lives. A number of the individuals may gang against a leader which if the leader is not strong enough to accommodate the frustration, he or she may end up failing in his or her role as a leader.

As a leader, one should act as a parent. This is because parents never expect the worst from their children. Basing on the leadership, inspiring action is significant. Despite the likes and dislikes from the members, which is normal, one should be wise enough to inspire the action. On the side of channelling and initiating ideas, a leader should be inclusive. Member should be included so as minimal complaints arise when mess comes on the way. More so, as a leader, one should not be too judgmental (Klenke, 2016). A judgmental leader makes the members shrink and hide ideas on certain aspects which may be crucial. Also, in the line of judgmental leader, workers never have freedom of expression whenever there is mismanagement. Instead of being too judgmental, a leader should establish a good relationship with leaders the same way as parents so as members can be free and innovative. Leadership is not for everyone. According to Antonaskis (2017), a good leader should adequately guide the team to achieve success in the set goals.

Individuals who are being ruled expect much from the leader. At first, before any step is made, consultation is done to the leader. People believe that the leader's opinion is the best (Klenke, 2016). Even if the idea was generated from another person, if you rule out the view, it will sound as if the leader is the generator. On the side of communication, people tend to believe that leaders should be good communicators. Despite generating ideas, rulers should be in a position to communicate the ideas. More so, at times, leaders should ignore their peers. It is not good though, but it is prudent to give a chance and observe who can be a leader in future. However, according to Klenke, (2016) as a boss, one should not express that eagerness to rule. Usually, people go for selfless leaders who have missions, visions and ambition of ruling. Sometimes eagerness portrays the sign of not being mature enough. Therefore as a leader, one should expect people to come to him for advice; hence, he or she should not be closed-minded.

Conclusion

As a leader, one is expected to have weakness and strongpoints. The weakness should not overdo strengths. According to Klenke (2016) regarding power as a leader, one should be able to adapt quickly to the changing environment. With rampant digitalization, for instance, as a welfare student's leader incorporating digitalization in the university was vital. Also, to play the role of a student's welfare leader, commitment to quality work is very crucial. Since elections, much quality work has been exhibited in the university, including purchasing of institution bus to aid in students travelling. Involving others is also essential in coming to a solution. On the side of weakness, as a welfare students' leader, experience in the field of leadership is still low. Therefore more consultations are made to effect on the administration. Also, comparison with other leaders is one of the weaknesses which at some points mitigate the moral.
