Tourism, both domestic and international, contributes substantially to the revenue generated and foreign exchange in a given region or county. However, there has been a continuous increase in solid wastes generated from this sector, be it plastic water bottles, wrappings, organic wastes, et Citra. These wastes have dramatically impacted the environment negatively, posing a threat even to the tourism sector itself wastes (Eagle and Low 2016). When these solid wastes get to the water bodies, for example, first, there is water pollution caused, resulting in the health deterioration of marine animals resulting in reduced economic activities like fishing. Additionally, the plastic wastes generated can block a river course leading to floods and also diseases like malaria because of the stagnant water wastes (Eagle and Low 2016).

Furthermore, when these solid wastes are left unattended, piles of garbage are created, which hurts the environment. First, the trash can cause an unpleasant smell making the locals uncomfortable (Pham Phu et al. 2018). Also, the garbage encourages scavenging animals and acts as a habitat for rodents. Consequently, when it rains, the water sips through the wastes and percolates into the soil. When the locals around these areas sink boreholes, the community may develop a severe disease like cholera due to the pollution that emanates from the solid wastes (Eagle and Low 2016). The city residents use many resources in paying for the treatment and deteriorating health having a bearing on productivity.

Conclusion

Notably, the looming crisis from the continuous pollution of the environment is something that the world should not wait for helplessly. Still, it should proactively advocate for ways to control this menace before it is too late. Initiatives like good garbage collection at designated points and recycling of plastic wastes can help protect the environment and, at the same time, create job opportunities for the locals, thus turning around the adverse effects (Pham Phu et al. 2018). International bodies such as United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) and the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) both have taken a leading role in educating and providing some funding to achieve this. Individual countries and states should also develop a guideline to solve this growing concern so that the earth can be a better place to live in.
